How warm/cool should the room be? Hi, We are on day 58 and getting very nervous, this Daisy's first litter. I have one question about the room temp. Our house gets really hot during the summer months and we are going to be having 80 to 90 degree weather when these babies are born so how hot is to hot for the room to be? Thanks for any advice you have! |
I use to think it was best to keep the room temperature around 80 degrees but since I read that if the momma gets to hot it will reduce her milk production, so now I keep the room temperature around 76. The most important thing is to make sure there pups are not in a draft. I always put a puppy heating pad under one side of the whelping box. To answer your question, I think anything over 80 degrees would be too hot for the momma. Do you have any type of air-conditioning in your house? |
I have a heating pad for half of the whelping box. I am planning on having the whelping box in my room so we do have a window ac unit. I am just worried about causing a draft on the pups. It gets well over 80 in there during the hottest part of the day. Maybe I could use a light sheet over the box just until I get the room cooled down? |
