Gender question Does anyone have any ideas on what two genders work well with Yorkies. In the past, I have seen that two females in many different kinds of animals don't do well. Other times, I have seen that a mother/daughter pair work great together. We have a baby girl and a baby boy, and I am specifially wondering about a father living in one house with one of the babies, and the mother living in another house with one of the babies. I realize it will depend on the particular dogs, but I am just wondering about any experiences/thoughts you guys may have. Thanks! |
I have Zoe & Peppee and their son, Brady. They all three get along. Zoe is the ruler of this roost so she will occasionally bark orders but Pep and Brady get along great... I'm not sure how well Zoe would do if we had another girl. It seems like a great time to find out :D |
My experience well.. this is just my experiences so take for what it's worth, 2 females will get a long for AWHILE until 1 or both comes into heat then look out !!! same with the males best buddies one minutue and next mortal enemies. they should be spayed or neutered and this will cut down on all of that aggression. just my 2 cents. good luck |
I have one female and 4 males. Well, My daughter just bought a female and I had her for about 3 weeks, Lola did not like her one bit. She tolerated her but when my back was turned I would hear a cry and lola would have XuXa on the ground. Get males. |
All my females get along with each gender and all my males get along with each gender EXCEPT Radar and a client male who both are in tact but it's not over the girls it's over "squeaky" toys! They get along great until one has a particular squeaky and the other one wants it and then Radar flips out! Soooooo, I have to keep Radar and the client male separated unless I put up all squeaky toys. Radar is "squeaky" toy agressive LOL.... Donna |

Our particular issue is that we have one puppy of each gender. We have the mom and our friend has the dad. My friend really wants the little girl puppy. I prefer female dogs, but I look at the personality of the dog, and how well it gets along with our other dogs as more important than gender. My friend says she needs the girl b/c the boy puppy won't get along with their male yorkie (the puppies' dad). So, I was wondering how well the dad Yorkie (soon to be neutered) would typically get along with his son/daughter. We'll soon know how our Yorkie (mom) gets along with the babies when they're older (they're only 9 days old now). I realize it depends on the particular dog, but was wondering about the typical situation. |

I have a mom, a dad, and a male and female siblings. They all get along fine. The Mom, the Dad, and the male puppy are all spayed/nuetered. Mom and daughter are inseperable. Dad and son get along fine as well. Dad particularly gets along great with the daughter. |
Spaying or neutering younger helps a great deal with either combination. My breeding males get along with any female, but never let 2 intact males together at any time. My breeding females would tear each other up during a heat cycle, even mother-daughter so we watch them very closely. It also depends on the lines. My TNT lines are pretty alpha personalities, where my Trouble, Kodak lines are really laid back and get along better with even the same sex. |

The lines I have are normally laid back and I can trust any of my intact males and females with anyone and everyone...Radar is the only one I've had that doesn't want anyone near his toys but it's funny he'll let Brookie have the one he wants and won't take it from her but sit and wait her out until she is done with it and then take it...funny how he is and she's spayed but alpha bitch in the house Donna |
I have two spayed females and a neutered male. The male, a yorkie, rules. He takes toys away, takes bully sticks and trys to keep them away from me. He is a little brat and he is the smallest. The girls are not yorkies and weigh between 15 and 20 pounds. They stand back and let him rule. |
