Please give me amunition! I was in a meeting today and the conversation came up about my two furbabies. I was asked if I intended to breed my male but since he has been neutered it was a non-issue. But both these people intend to breed their pet yorkies for no good reason other than that they are purebreds and small. One is 4lb and the other 4.5. So far I have told them that it would probably cost them more to raise and sell the litter than they would get back for it and that little yorkies have problems delivering babies. I know my Adie had a sister that died. What else can I tell them to discourage them from going through with this plan. I have told them about Yorkietalk and may get them mad at me if they log on and read this but I'm thinking about those little darlings! By the way, I am not a breeder. |
Maybe if they did log on and read the several very sad stories that were recently here they would quickly change their minds. How many little ones are lost to reputuring uterius, infections and c-sections. Breeding should be left to the breeders and it's not something to take lightly. A little life may be a stake or several. Recently mom and pups were all lost. Perhaps you could find those threads and print them for them to read. That should scare them enough to forget about it. Hopefully anyhow. |
Good for you trying to educate someone. Don't get discouraged, I'm afraid there are very few people who will listen to you, especially breeders, who want to earn some extra money. What you can do is help educate people to avoid breeders like this. People buying a dog, and especially those who have been through the misery of buying a backyard breeders dog, are more willing to listen. |
Oh let's see....first you have testings to see if your dogs are healthy to breed - then there are the cost of the xrays - ER vet cost about $1500 to do an ER c-section around my area (my vet will not let us go there - but that is an exeption to most vets)...IF something happens to the mother...or she doesnt want to nurse - that's feedings all around the clock! Depending on how many puppies there are you could just get done and start all over again! Then if something is wrong with the Mommy you will need to nurse her back to health too! Vet bills on puppies for tails - dews - shots- wormings - heartwom. Those are just SOME of the costs! |
Some can be told all and still do it. They might have to find out for them selves |

I agree with all of your comments. I still think that if you are not a licensed breeder you should be legally required to spay or neuter your pets. |

I guess I understand about the licensing, and I like the idea of a things being cheaper if an animal is fixed. But in the county where I live we are only required to get rabies vaccinations and I don't see them lowering that price any. Wrenee4, I am going to copy everything you said and share that with them. One of these people is wanting to do it for the money but I don't know about the other one. I suspect that she just wants the experience. You can tell she loves her little one just buy the way she talks about her. I know I look at Adie sometimes and think about how cute her puppies would be if she had some, (She is spayed) but then I also think about what a rotten mother the spoiled little brat would be LOL. |
