I have a question on Testicles dropping 1 Attachment(s) I was thinking about getting a little AKC Parti Yorkie hes 3 lbs and will be one in Aug. but his testicles have not dropped yet. so he will probably need surgery . They paid $3000 for him but letting him go cheaper because of this. how much does it cost to have this surgery done and with him being only 3 lbs is that to much of a risk in its self? have any of you had a male that did not drop theirs?Id really like to help this sweet baby out and get him the care he needs. hes such a cutie. |
He is precious! Call your Vet for a quote ;) |

That's not a bad price at all ;) I wonder if they take the friends of animals coupon? But def. go the gas route   |

no thats not a bad price at all, I thought it would be a lot more. Im waiting on the lady to get back with me, hoping she will come down a little on the price. |
You can purchase a spay/neuter certificate at the Friends of Animals (right side, type in your zipcode) and they will give you a list of Vets in your area that will accept the cert as payment for the spay/neuter. The cert costs: Female Dog Spay $90.00 Male Dog Neuter $64.00 The Vet *may* have weight limits or a few *extra* charges ontop of those prices above. Check into it :D ....I would still go the gas route ;) |

Thanks Ill check into it. yes only the gas route here, thats what we use on ours. |
i think getting him neutered shouldn't be that much more than a regular neuter....i think it was like $50 more here... |

The anesthetic of choice is Sevoflorine or Isoflorine. If the vet doesn't use that, find another vet. |

yeah I heard that it may be a different surgery depending how high they are.thats what I was trying to tell the owners. |
Well the owner never emailed me back, so its looking like she don't want to come down on the price for him. DH doesn't want to pay that amount , says he just put a good amount out on a surprised B-Day gift for me for Tuesday. so I guess we wont be getting him, I so wanted to help this little guy out. If any one else is interested in him pm me for his info. |
Give them time I sold a male puppy to a lady at work and his testicles didn't come down at age 6 months so she was going to have the surgery but wedding plans put a hold on his surgery and now they are down, just takes time for some of them I even knew a breeder who's stud dogs testicles didn't come down until he was 10 months old so just be patient, I know the lady didn't get back with you I just wanted to post for others that are worried. |
I have one who is 7 months old and his still have not dropped. I don't know what I"ll do if they don't drop. |

OK, well the Vet said at 4 months, she could only feel one. My friend just came over, and she said she could feel one, but it hasn't really dropped yet, but its there. Can they father babies with just one? Maybe the other one will drop later?????????? Hes very small, would that have anything to do with it? Maybe it will just take longer because he is so small.:aimeeyork |
Hello, One dropped testicle usually does produce sperm, just half the normal amount. The one that hasn't dropped produces sperm, but they are usually dead, sperm need to be kept cooler than the body temp by a few degrees. Half is still enough to produce babies, but cryptorchids shouldn't be bred because it's usually a genetic trait. Whitney |
Well, heres my question. I bought this dog with the sole intention of using him as a stud. Don't you think the breeder should of had him checked out by the vet. I didn't purchase him until he was 3 months old. I knew nothing of male dogs, because I always had females. The breeder knew I wanted him as a stud. I know the vets can feel them now at 8 weeks. I don't know if she intententionly misled me or just didn't know any better. I took this dog to a breeder down the street, and she kept saying "what a shame" He's like underveloped. She said she doubt very much whether he would ever father a litter. With a good stud don't you want a good pair of testicles? This breeder kept bringing out more and more of her male dogs and showing me the sacs. They were hugh!!! ha ha So, my options are??????? Give him a year, have him checked, then neuter him and sell him as a pet, and I"m out a whole lot of money? Well, I"ve learned my lesson, and if I ever buy another male, it will be in writing!!! |
Hi, I think at four months that he's got time, but I don't know that much about male dogs. I'd say you've got at least a few more months before you need to start worrying. Whitney |
NO, hes 7 months now. At 4 months the vet told me he had only 1. |
I have a male that did not drop his first until he was around 14 months...dropped his second at 16 months. He's a bit on the smaller size so we were waiting longer than normal to schedule his neuter. Thank goodness we held off! |
