Breeding pairs - cousins? sisters? Hi - I have a quick question that I'm sure someone will know here. I'm not breeding and don't intend to, but I have this question because of something that I see on my dog's pedigree. If dog A and bitch A has a litter, produce dog B. Then they have a litter and produce bitch B (separate litters). Then both B's produce pup C, is this sister and brother mating here? It seems to me it is - is that OK???? How close a relationship is it "accepted" to breed from???? Thanks |
i personally wouldnt think any inbreeding is ok jmho espically when your paying for a dog its seems careless and gross to me BUT some big time shows breeders MAY do it im not sure i just dont like the idea personally it creeps me out |
That is a brother and sister breeding and it is never recommended to do that under any circumstances. I do know some show breeders that breed half-brother and half-sister but that is still a risky breeding and you really need to know what you are doing. I must add though that in many cases pups that are out of close inbreeding are not automatically bad, stupid or full of problems. You really never know how they will turn out, some inherit a lot of faults and health issues and others are just fine. A lot depends on how sound the parents were. Or at least that is what I have read. I have never attempted breeding that close. |
I will breed like Grandsire to granddaughter but that is as close as I get. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
