Quality of life with Hydrocephalus 4 Attachment(s) My 6 week old Yorkie was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus. She looked different the day she was born. She had a Mohawk. Her head wasn't the same. As time went on her development was slow. What is the quality of life for a dog with hydrocephalus? With stunts and without stunts? Meds? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I need help deciding what to do. The vet told me that I’ll know when it is time to put her down. He did not prescribe Prednisone, Omeprazole, or Lasix. He did give me a neurologists phone number, but told me I not obligated to call him. |
sounds scary .. never herd of that before after googling it, it still sounds scary that little one made it to 6 weeks old she wants to live! from the pictures looks like she is up and about on her feet and looks a real cutey treatment is available google says .. your vet not even wanting to try stuff? and just wants to put her to sleep? call that neurologist and see what they say my heart aches..hope someone can help you who has actually been through it... |
Unfortunately her prognosis isn't very good. I'm so very sorry. |
Your baby's hydrocephalus looks to be quite large. I had a puppy with it, but it wasn't quite as bad. She was on prednisone and Metacam for quite a while. She did go on to make a full recovery and her head did eventually close. I'm surprised that your vet didn't want to put her on anything. |
Praying for your baby:love: Please call that neurologist, maybe with aggressive treatment she can have a future.... |
We had a surrender come into our rescue with this same thing. The vet told us that there wasn't much they could do. He didn't prescribe anything either. Rocco is 15 months old and the cutest little thing. |
