Pregnant & sick? 1st time mama need advice Hi, my yorkie Tia was breed for the first time on Mar 27, and again on Apr. 3. I REALLY think that she is pregnant, but her belly really hasn't shown much difference yet. Last nite I stayed at my mother's and I know that she did eat some canned food which she is not used to, but the problem is that this morning she just isn't acting right at all and her belly feels very bloated and full. I dont know if I should make the 50 mile trip to a emergency vet call or if I am just being an overprotective new mama. Anyone have any advice? Thanks |
Hello. I am from Mo also., and my yorkie is pregnant too. Molly did not show signs of being pregnant till she was about 5 to 6 weeks. But It depends on her size. Molly is 7-8 lbs. I had a tiny yorkie 3lbs show at 4 weeks. Also that canned food could have caused gas. Which since she is pregnant I would ask the vet which med. for that. I would wait and see how she is in a few hours before you make that long trip.Hope your yorkie will be okay.Blondschilli:animal-pa |
I wouldn't hesitate to get a suspected pregnant female to the vet's if anything appears not to be normal. You don't know what can be happening internally, why take the chance. With their first litters most females don't show into their final couple of weeks. Muscles are toned and don't expand as in later litters. |
I suggest if you think there is a problem or might be one then a vet visit is a MUST imo. I don't recommend waiting till a potential issues gets more serious when you can have her checked out now and not risk the health of your dog. |
If she was bred this would be about the time that she might experience some morning sickness, but by giving her food that she wasn't used to could be the problem. My Yorkie has a tempermental stomach and she would not be allowed to eat different food because she would get sick. I would at least call your vet and tell him the symptoms and about her possible pregnancy and ask what he thinks you should do. (I always call my vet and ask before I make an appointment because sometimes it wastes money if the vet doesn't want to take action on something. |
Thanks so much for the advice! I really appreciate the replies!!! Tia is my baby girl, and I know I am a protective mama, but like my real children, a mama just knows when something isn't just quite right. A few hours have passed, and though she still seems a bit "bloated" I don't think it is quite as bad as it was and she is acting much better. I guess I will wait and watch... But I truly appreciate the response from all of you, and figure that I will be back and more interactive with the forum in the next bit! This is a great learning place and I have been here often though this is my first post. Thanks again so much! |
