Ever had twins? I recently went to pick out my puppy. There are 3 girls- and 2 of them were twins... born in the same sack. I thought I would check with the breeders on here to see what that means. Do they have trouble socializing after being separated from their twin? Will they be less likely to bond with me, or just the opposite? Maybe she will be so used to a companion that she will be stuck to me liek glue? Or maybe puppies dont know the difference between their twin and their other littermates...I am very curious about the outcome of spearated twins- the breeder said that she has never had such a case in 11 yrs... Any advice is helpful. |
Oh wow, that is so interesting...I too would like to know your question! Did you pick your pup out? When do you get him/her? |
wow! i'd like to hear more about this also! |
No idea but how interesting! I hope someone has some feedback for you! |
ive never heard of this either, very interesting though :) i think all puppies miss their mom and littermates for the first few weeks of being seperated, but after loadz of love and attention from you they start to bond with you, i love to see molly getting all exited to see me when i cum home..it makes my day :D did u pick 1 of the twins? |
You would think that every one of the pups in that litter are technically twins( or triplets, or quads etc.), maybe not identical, but fraternal. I thought I had twins when Rosie whelped, 2 pups came out within a minute of each other, they had the same exact chest marking, but one was a boy and the other was a girl, so they were not twins. I don't think they will miss that twin any more than the rest of their littermates, they don't see anything for weeks, so they can't really know which one is which.:D Interresting though. |
Yes I ended up picking a twin... So I hope it all goes well! She is not identical to her twin, she has a different face and is a little smaller. Their only similiarity is a slight grey patch kind of on their chin. I think she will be perfect! I will get her in 4 weeks so I will keep you updated. |
congrats on your new baby!! |
Two pups born in the same sack is sooo fascinating! I know that twins can be different sexes in humans, but born in the same sac ...I wonder myself. Hope someone w/the same experience will answer soon. |
I had a friend this happened to. One was around 4 ounces and the other was 1.8 ounces and didn't make it. I was not there when she delivered but she said they came out of the same sack. I had never heard of it and had always wondered about it. |

Just an update to let everyone know that my "twin" is doing well! I have had her for a week and she sleeps well in her kennel- no whining at night time and her favorite place to be is in my lap, but she loves to play and explore too! So none of my worries came true about having a twin, she is perfect mix of independent and affectionate. I couldnt be happier! |
Congratulations, glad to hear all is going well. Until you posted this I never even thought about dogs having twins. Very interesting.... |
I had twin boys once. Mom was busy working on a baby, and I noticed the sack seemed lumpy.. I checked things out a little closer and there was another baby. If I hadn't been there, I don't think it wouldn't have made it because Mom was working on just the one, and the sack was still covering the face of the other. Their cords attached to the same one big cord that went to the afterbirth, which was really weird too. As for twin bonding, I never noticed anything different from any other litter mate. Congratulations on your new baby! |
Congrats on your new furbaby!!:D |
