Yeah! She finally ate. I resorted to lightly sauteeing some venison. I figure that it won't hurt to spoil her at this stage and if it gets her to eat...

Thank you! I gave her a little bit of Nutri-cal which she was not happy about but after that, she ate her food! The only thing I wasn't sure about is that the Nutrical has some calcium in it and I don't know how much is too much at this stage?

Good girl, Zo Zo...you let that momma spoil you as much as you can get her to at this stage...you deserve it all, you little princess! :D

Theresa, I would see no harm in a little sauteed...I know it's not "ideal", but it's obviously WAYYYYY better than her not eating, so as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Keep doing that and hoping she eats!

I don't think there would be enough calcium in the nutri-cal to cause any problem. You can also give a little karo syrup and water. When a dogs blood sugar drops they loose their appetite so sometimes we just have to give them a little boost. Can you tell if her pups have dropped yet? Are you feeling a lot of movement?

I am a little behind on this thread. We had two litters this month. The first were born on 5/7 and the second yesterday 5/23.

Lucy's litter had 4 girls and 1 boy ( we lost the smallest girl 1.8 ounces the next morning)
Nadia's litter has 4 boys.

She still doesn't have much of an appetite. I keep trying different things. Sometimes she takes a bite but usually just turns up her nose. She does seem to be in good spirits otherwise. I can't tell if pups have dropped or not though? They are kicking here and there but can't say I've seen a lot of movement either. How can you tell if they've dropped yet or is the kind of thing you have to see to understand?

Usually when you first start feeling movement the movement is more on the sides of the stomach area or up higher under the ribs. Once the pups drop the stomach will hang more and you can feel movement back in the groan area.

As long as she eats a little here and there she should be fine. I imagine she is pretty uncomfortable.

Oh wow! All those babies. :D (sorry you lost the little one. God must have wanted her) I will have to tell my daughter that some babies were born on her birthday. Hope the mamas and all the babies are doing fine.

Thank you! She did eat a little bit but not much and it was a little bit of a hamburger (mine) and I'm not sure it's the best but I was happy to have her eat something. She is drinking. The babies are more on the sides so I think we have some time left. I really don't want her to go early - my vet is out of town until tomorrow and the lady who is mentoring me is out of town today as well! :eek: But I think I better stop worrying and save up my energy for when I'm gonna need it - hopefully not for a few days!:p Does it get easier? Or do you always worry like this?

It never gets easier. I especially hate the long puppy watches. I love it when they come on day 60 or 61. I have even had some go on day 69 and 70. It can drive you nuts being stuck at home for so long and then the long nights went you are afraid to go to sleep. You will do just fine but like you said, you better get rested up. :)

You guys! It was so amazing! I am in awe right now! What a miracle being part of the birthing process was! How can anyone say there is so God? It is just amazing!
But as for details -
She was up at 1am to go potty but no panting. My husband said she was digging alot in the bed but since she didn't seem uncomfortable, I didn't think too much of it. At 3 am, I awoke to puppy crying!
1st one - boy 3.6 ounces at 2:50
2nd one - boy 2 ounces at 3:05
3rd one - my girl! 2 ounces at 3:45
4th one - boy 2 ounces at 4:20

She had no problems whatsoever and all were born head first - thank goodness and it just seemed like one push and they were out!

Teri - you'll be honored to know that aside from the first one being born on my comforter, the rest were all born on the bed you made for Zoe. It was not the plan but when I woke up to a puppy on the bed, I yelled to my husband to grab the closest thing. After the 2nd one was born, I put the bed right in her whelping box and so the last 2 were born on it too.a

And by the way.... I was listening with the stethescope yesterday and I swore I heard a 4th heartbeat and i could here that one's had a different heartbeat than the other 3. How cool is that!
