Studs... Ok before I get jumped (lol) could you please answer these questions? First of all which tests should be passed before breeding? Which ones should be done prior to EACH breeding? I have researched and there are just so many different answers out there so I am wondering what you think. Also how much would you pay for a registered, pedigreed, 4.5 lb, cute yorkie stud? |
i can't help with the test part because i can't remember all of them (patella,blood,hip,eyes,etc.)... do you have any pics of the lil guy? Where I live to get a really nice AKC under 5lb. stud is around $800-$1000... |

if you are looking to buy a really nice stud, you will $1000. and up from there. I know I paid more for one of mine and less for the other. The one I paid more for tho has an awesome pedigree with some major championlines. OOPSSSSSSS. I see where you are asking for stud services. Sorry we must have posted at the same time. |
Here it depends on the stud himself, but price starts from 400 as much as 1000, :) |

Cute does not tell you what the dog will produce. |
around here it is $500 or pick of litter. |

$500 is a better price to pay for stud service then a puppy. Because not sure about you but my puppies start a $800 and go up. So if you can do the $500 you come out better. |
I forgot to add this, a fee for stud service is always lower than the price of a puppy, because you (the stud's owner) gets the fee with no wait. You don't have to put any time into it. With that said, I would not stud my stud with just any yorkie, it would have to be AKC and within standard, and health. Just thought I would add that, because I had somebody ask me the other day about breed my stud with a Yorkie-poo. Why NO!!! |

Well, you have to put time into it if you consider the time and money spent on medical testing for the stud to begin with. Plus, usually, you only get a stud fee IF a litter is produced. So no, you don't always get your money up front, no questions asked. |

Most of all the breeders I know do get their money up front. However, if a litter is not produced (1 live pup is considered a litter) and per the contract a repeat breeding is given with no extra cost. But, the money is kept by the stud owner. The reason behind this is the dam could be barren. Now that being said, usually with a first time stud, you don't charge a stud fee, after all he hasn't been proven. |
