Breeding Issues Hello, I have a total of 3 yorkies. Two females and 1 male. My male and one female have managed to breed several times (almost certain that a single pup will be due there in the next week or so) however the other female never results in a successful breeding. I have tried holding the female, and doing everything possible to help him to successfully tie, or at least slip tie. However, it seems to always end in frustration for me, as well as him :-\ Does anyone have any suggestions? The male is almost 3, and the female is about 2 1/2, he is right at 5.5 lbs and the female is almost 6 thought smaller just heavier so they are very close in size. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cara :) |
If the female is shorter then the male may be overshooting his mark. Did you try elevating the female's rear end by placing her hind legs on a folded blanket or something? Has the female ever been bred before. Was the vulva swollen enough and accommodate the male? Was the male showing interest in the female and trying to breed but just unsuccessful in tying? Were you trying to let him breed to both females over the same period of time? Do you leave the male completely separated from the females except when you were trying to breed them? There are so many things that have to be considered for a successful breeding and for us to give sound advice we would have to know the answers to all these questions. Best of luck with you other female. I pray she has a safe whelping. |
