Is more than 12 weeks ok? My puppy will be leaving the breeder at around 3-4 months old. Will this be ok or is it too long for her to stay with her mother and litter mate? |
~I usually let mine go between 10-12 weeks. I let one puppy go at 16 weeks just because he was more on the smaller side. It will have more time to learn from littermates and mommy (proper doggy etiquette). Good Luck!!! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Several breeders I know , let their puppies go at six months . |
Sounds like a responsible breeder. The pup has more time to learn social skills from it's mother and littermates.Yorkies stay playful and willing to bond (typical puppy behavior until their about 10 months)so no worries you will have plenty of time to bond and get the full puppy experience! congratulations:) |
It's acutally a very GOOD sign that your breeder is keeping your little one with mom and littermates that long. General rule of thumb for Yorkies is not to place them until they are 12 weeks old, so she's doing the right thing. |
Do not worrry. I didn't get one of my girls from her breeder until she was two and a half years old (aka when they took her out of their breeding program) and it took about 3 days to bond with us. |
Puppies bond very easily with their new owners. A good breeder will work with the new owners to make sure the transition is an easy process. I don't think there is a problem with waiting longer for the puppy, but I have heard lots of horror stories when puppies are too young to leave the mother and the littermates. |
I do not see there is a problem to stay longer with the breeder either. My puppies usually go home at least 10 to 12 weeks...smaller ones stay longer.. if I am getting a pup from a breeder,I prefer get my pup at 3 and 3 half months not at 6 months old so they can get used to my son handing them, his fast movement... :D Is your puppy smaller ? maybe this is the reason why the breeder wants to keep the puppy longer! |
