Well, the c-section I had done was about 7 years ago and only cost about $450. These 24 hour emergency clinics cost an arm and a leg. I use a clinic that is about 50 miles away in Jasper, TX and they have 3 vets on call 24 hours a day. They are much cheaper than the 24 Hour Emergency clinic that is in Beaumont. Sometimes you can find a nice vet that is willing to come in after hours and not over charge you. Fortunately in my 12 years of breeding I have only had two emergencies that were after hours. |
I would work very closely with my vet and make sure that he/she would be available to you "when the time comes". If you will be with her 24/7 from about day 57 through delivery, then I wouldn't schedule a "c" section, but would keep very close look on her and be ready for a dash to the vet if problems occur. Sections come with their own set of risks and problems and I am all for giving Mom a chance to deliver naturally if at all possible. |
