Question about moms milk??? Hi, I have a pregnant yorkie who is about 45 days pregnant and she has her milk already. Is this normal? She is due around April 23rd. This is her first litter and mine too. I am getting everything ready for her and the puppies. I was also wondering, she got sick this morning and threw up a few times. She hadn't ate for a while and I though it was because of an empty stomach? She did eat when I fixed her food with a little wet mixed in. Now she seems to feel better. Any advice you can give, I will appreciate. Oh, I do have a male and want to know what to do with him when she has the puppies? Thank you all so much. Mary:p |
Hi Mary, first let me say congrats on your upcoming litter. My female's milk came in early too. She had more than enough, she had a large litter - 5 puppies. Are you sure on the due date, because I wasn't and she actually went a week earlier than I had originally thought she was going to. Mine wasn't a planned pregnancy. I put my male in another room when the puppies were born and he is not to get near them now, even though they are 4-1/2 weeks old. She doesn't give him the chance. She's a very protective mother. Just keep her clean and comfortable. It's normal for them to get some "morning" sickness because the puppies are pushing her tummy. If you are very concerned, call your vet. You may want to schedule an appointment for them to check her. |
I agree with blancla about double checking the breeding dates to be sure you are correct with your dates. Mom's generally deliver on my bed - I put down washable Potty Pads and since I attend the birthing, it is more comfortable for everyone and I don't disturb mom as much with all my "fussing" over them. After all the babies are safely nursing, I transfer the new family to the Nursery, which in my case is a PetGear Play pen that I have lined both inside and out with fabric. I also cover the top of the play pen to help ward off drafts. Pups are introduced to the other members of my canine family as soon as the mom is comfortable with the idea, but almost always within a week. By this I mean a sniff or two while I am sitting on the floor holding them. By the time the pups have thier eyes open and are ready to mingle with the pack, everyone is familar with everyone and there is no transition or surprises. Good luck with your new litter. Have you had xrays done yet to determine how many pups to expect? |
Hi, thanks for the info. The due date is correct. Her first tie was on the 19th of February and I counted 63 days from then. I have been visiting Debbie Jensen's website daily and reading up on everything. I am waiting until she is 57 days to take her for her x ray. That is what my vet said. Last time she had a false pregnancy, but my male was new and he didn't get her till the end of her cycle. This time he was right on and she is getting huge. I know she is definatley preggers this time. I am praying everything goes well and think it will. She will be a great momma. Again thank you all! Mary |
