No Lock What Wrong? Im breeding a 6lbs Yorkie [Female] with a 3lbs Yorkie[Male] and no lock. Today and tomorrow are her best day to get preggers and its not seeming to happen. He humps away and get stimulated but theres no insertion. This is her first time and his fourth. Hes very tiny and i wonder if he cant reach but the last Yorkie he encountered with was 10-12lbs. This is my first breeding and i dont know what to do. Can someone please give me some advice? Help! Sorry for my misspelling in the title. Im a little frazzled :/ |
Are you sure SHE is ready?? How many days in heat has she been. If he is simply too small, I guess you could do artifical insemination, if you know how. lol |
How old is the male? When you say he is stimulated, is he knotting up outside of her and just not getting a tie? |
You may have to help. I always have to with my male with any size female. I fold up a blanket to let him stand on. My male never breeds until on or after the 13 day. If you need some other things that might help pm me and I will be glad to share them. |
Shes 13 days in today. He get out just a little while hes on top then he just jumps off. She really want him. She jumps at him to get his attention then backs her rear up to his face. This is her first time mating and she seems to want it more than him. I think im gonna do AI what do you think? He wont let me help either he runs away if i try to lift him up. |
How old are the male and female? |

First of all, do you know how to AI? Do you have all the proper sterile equipment? AI is very tricky and extreme caution needs to be used. You can inseminate folds inside her that never will reach the uterus and you will lose all the semen as she starts to walk or sits down. You can both artifically inseminate and still have him try to breed her every other day. Just don't over use him, poor little guy. But people here did ask a important question. How old are they...both...oopps just read their ages |
It seems i cant to AI. Theres no one locally who has the equpiment. I would have to order it online and by the time it got here the stud would be on his way back home. |
Im like almost in tears. I know it sounds lame but i really want puppies. I have waited so long and now its not happening. I feel help less. Sorry about my rambling im stressed and a heatbroken. |
Since the male is experienced I would think that either he senses the female is not ready or he is physically not up to the task. With him being 6 years old could he possible have any health issues? Have you had him check for LP? Perhaps his knees hurt him when he is trying to breed her. The only other thing I can think of is that the female is too rowdy for him and he may be unsure of her. I recommend you just sit on the floor or on a short stool and hold the female by her shoulders while the male mounts her. Make sure the hair is trimmed around the females vulva area so the hair does not interfere. If the male has long hair make sure his hair is not interfering. Are you keeping the male and female separated except at the times you are trying to breed them? It is important to not let them stay together all the time. The male will tire himself out and eventually quit trying. I would let them try for 30 minutes and if no success separate them and try several hours later. It is still possible to get a successful breeding. I bred a female before on her 13 day and she had 4 puppies. Please keep us posted. |
I didn't know about keeping them separate. I just put them in the bathroom with a puppy gate and let them hang in their for awhile. Then i put them in a big kennel for a couple of hours. But from 3 till now they have been separated. So im gonna try again now, im gonna try debbie jensens method now. |
