dog in heat MY LIL ( MONTH OLD IS IN HEAT> How long do I need to keep her away from any males? I have a Jack russel and we would not want that. she is just at day 4 of swelling Thanks Christina |
According to my vet, and this is what I did last month when my silkie girl had her first heat. 25 days from first bleeding, special care that they DO NOT get in contact with each other from day 10-16, when her discharge will be a pinkish color.. supposely those are the MOST fertile days.. I send my boy to my mom for 22 days and still kept a baby onesie on him when he came back home at day 23 to day 25. Best of luck.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
You need to keep your female completely separated from the male for at least 21 days. Some bitches have been know to conceive very late in their heat cycle. If they are not jumpers you could keep one in a tall x-pen but if they are in the same room it will be more frustrating for them. My suggestion is to keep them in separate rooms. I know they will be unhappy about this and it requires a lot more work on your part but it is the only solution to keep your girl safe. Good luck. :) |
when my rottie was in heat we had to keep her in a crate and my yorkie in a crate. They would just lay next to each other, but not get all over each other. THey don't even know that they are little! Man! My vet told me that I had to keep them apart for 2 weeks after she stoped bleeding. I don't know how many days that is and I don't know if it is any different from little dogs to big. |
Thanks everyone I keep one out side the Jack russel at times then I let the yorkie run the house then I bring him in and he in a cage in a different room w/ the door closed. Thanks I wanted to know how long now I have a better idea Christina |
You have to keep them apart for a good 20-25 days to be sure. |
