Hello, I have a question about my pregnant female? Hi, my Yorkie Princess is about 1 month pregnant. She has been shaking alot like she is cold. I keep her warm as I can, with her bed and blankets, but she just shakes. Could it be because this is her first pregnancy and her stomach is stretching? Has anyone had experience with this? I appreciate any info you can give me. Mary:) |
Hmmm, don't think it's due to the reasons you gave. The only possiblity I can think of is maybe due to morning sickness, but even then, I don't remember the shakes with my female & her morning sickness. Just loss of appetite & vomiting some. If it continues, you might want to have your vet check her out to be on the safe side. I know I would. |

If I were in your situation, I would take my female to the vet. The problem can be any number of things, some serious, some not so serious..... Hypoglocemia, Hypocalcemia (usually occurs post delivery, but can occur pre delivery) are two things that come to mind. How is her appetite and energy level? Is she peeing and pooping? How old is she, how large is she. I've thrown a lot of questions at you, but they all can factor in. |
Hi, She doesn't shake all the time. Just when she is excited and she wants my attention a lot now that she is pregnant. She is about 10 pounds and my male is only about 4 pounds. This is her first litter. She had a false pregnancy last time, but my male got her toward the end of her heat and she didn't take. This time he was right on time. She is not a small Yorkie. She does go to the bathroom more now that she is pregnant. She is a picky eater and I bought her puppy food, but she doesn't seem to like it. She doesn't eat too much. I think I will try a different food and see if that helps. I will call her vet Monday and ask what she thinks. I appreciate all your help. She has a lot of energy. I try to keep her from jumping to much. I know in the last weeks she isn't allowed to jump. |
It is probably just an attention getting behavior, but it is a good thing that you are going to discuss it with her vet. Good luck and please keep us posted, can't wait to see pics of the new family! |
My bred Yorkie went through a week or so where she would get shaky for a little while, about 20-30 minutes. This was at the same time when she seemed to have some morning sickness. After that week she stopped the shaking. I think it sounds like some effect of morning sickness (she threw up that week too) but if it continues I would get her to the vet. In humans shaking could indicate a calcium problem, but you do not want to give her extra calcium through her pregnancy, as far as I have learned. My girl's shaking occured ay 4 weeks also. If she shakes for a long period of time, take her to the vet. |

So I mix the puppy kibbles with a little hot water, powder milk replacer for pup, Nutro natural dog supplement and cottage cheese or boil egg. They love it!! Stop all supplement/vitamins 1 week before expecting whelping time. After they give birth day eat only in the palm of my head, and sitting in there litter box. It it really important that your female eat and drink a lot! Before and after giving birth. I am now over worry about the shaking since it is only when she get excited, but keep close eyes on her. If it get worst I would call the vet. |
Hormones I really feel that this may be the hormones raging while she is prego. Esp if this is her first pregnancy, she is so clueless as to what is going on....and if she has ANY tepidation in her at all.....meaning if she is a little shy or timid......she may tend to be a little more nervous..... I agree, make sure she is eating, give her attention, and maybe a cup of warm milk to sooth her tummy. |
