Selling an adult- I am not sure if this is the right spot for this question, but none of the other forums really fit either... Anyway, we are thinking of rehoming one of our little girls. I'm having our 4th baby this summer, and I just don't have the time that I did when we first got them. She's just turned a year old, and is under 3lbs, so I for sure will be selling her with a spay-contract, as well as limited registration. (According to the charts, she was supposed to be around 4.5, but never got that big.) So, where do I start looking for a home for her? I know it's not the same as puppy, and I'm not sure what to charge for her, etc. I'd prefer somewhere a little close, so she isn't shipped, but I'm pretty open to just finding her a good home. (I'm in Las Vegas, so there's plenty of bigger cities within driving distance) Any suggestions would be very welcome. |
Do you have any pictures of her. My sister in law is in Scottsdale and they are looking for an older yorkie. A year is perfect. Can you post. |
Do you have photos? What would your re-homing fee be? My parents are in AZ - They have 2 girls and 1 boy and are sorta looking for a 4th and final :p They are all spayed and neutered. And one of my parents are home all the time. |
1 Attachment(s) I will get a good recent photo of her soon, but I JUST gave her a summer cut this past weekend, so she is really cut down! I wish I would have just waited on that to get some good photos. :) Anyway, here's one that was taken about 2 months ago. I'm not sure about her price. I was thinking around $2000, which is way less than what I've been told to list her at, but I'm open on that. I really want her to go to a great home, but at the same time, I'm not going to just give her away, since we paid quite a bit for her. Any other help or opinions would be appreciated! Thanks! |
She is very beautiful!! This is just my opinion, but $2000 seems very high for a 1 yr rehome. Does she have show potential? |
Angie, I really don't know, as I haven't done any real show training with her. The couple of breeders I've talked to about her both told me $3500+ which seems super high, and somewhat greedy to me. She's just a great family dog, super fun personality, and really loving. I really would like her to go to a great home, but like I said, we did pay quite a bit for her, and DH would like to at least make some of that back. (She was our first litter- the only survivor after an emergency after-hours c-section, which was $$$ here in Vegas.) What would you suggest listing her at with her size? (She is AKC reg as well, but no champion lines or anything.) |
$2000 is way too high for an adult pet being rehomed. That's about the highest some top show breeders charge for puppies. I think any adult being rehomed should be no more than $500 and should go to their new home spayed/neutered. The goal should just be to find a good home. |
She's darling :D! I'm confused -- so you bought her, or she was one of your litters? I can tell you that I paid less than that for my Marcel - and he is from a show breeder, and his pedigree is almost entirely Durrer Champions (and Rothby Ch.) and Best in Shows. So, I do think that price is steep. |
I just read a very good article the other day, wish I remembered where it was. Although, I'm thinking it was in my dog fancy magazine.? Anyway it was talking about how although, yorkies should be no more than 7 lbs, that 5-7 is the healthiest weights, and therefore, those should be the ones that are sold for more. They said if a breeder is selling a small yorkie for more than the 5-7 lb range to run as fast as you can. A lot of times the smaller ones do have more problems, and are more apt to get stepped on etc. I have to agree with a lot of the other people, the little girl is adorable, but, I would never pay that much for a yorkie as just a pet. To me it would be more important to sell for less to someone that would love her and take good care of her. |

she is beautiful and i hope you find her a wonderful forever home! :) when i adopted my gino at about 10 or 11 months old (RIP sweet boy :( ), he was being held back for show and then his ears flopped and he never got much above 4 lbs. he was "show quality" and on the smaller side and was a little over half what you are thinking ($2000). AND he was neutered before he left his breeders. so i do agree with the others - i think that is pretty high. however, i am not sure what yorkies are sold for in your area and maybe that is the norm? either way, i hope you find her a perfect home where she will be spoiled like the princess she is ;) :wub: |
