how big she will be ? i have a 5 week old yorkie and she is 1.02 oz. how big she will be? |
Its really hard to tell at such a young age,itcould be just puppy fat or she may have a stockier build.I would wait till around 6 mths to really start evaluating her. |
Welcome to yorkie talk. The general rule of thumb that most breeders follow is to triple the puppy's weight at 8 weeks or double the puppy's weight at 12 weeks and you will get their estimated adult weight, give or take a little. I think much of that formula depends on the puppies structure and how much baby fat the puppy has. Are you the breeder of this pup and is the pup still with it's mom? I hope so. I really *hope* that this pup is part of a litter that you have in home, not a pup that was placed with you at only 5 weeks! :( (Espcially since that it illegal in Florida!) As mentioned, the general rule of thumb is to triple the weight at 8 weeks, double it at 12 for a rough 'gusstimate' of the final adult size. |

I'm confused, is it 1lb .02 oz, or just over 1oz? I would not think it would be possible to have a 5 week old pup to be just over an ounce and be healthy. And I agree, I really hope this pup is with its mother still! |
I just went yesterday and saw my mentors single pup. He is 5 1/2 weeks old now, he also weighed 1 lb. 2 oz. (we weighed him while I was there) He seemed like he was going to be pretty small, he had a nice round belly becuase I am sure he ate really great being the only pup in that litter. If the chart is accurate, which I have no idea if they are or not, it said he should be 4 or 4 1/2 lbs. Which is 'small' in my opinion. He's so cute I may buy him!:animal-pa "What chart are you looking at? " If you type in "yorkie growth chart" on google, it will give you many choices to see charts. Click on any one and they all seem to be the same. (no idea how accurate they are) |

A lot of things can change the outcome though. At 5 weeks, weights are constantly changing. They can differ quite a lot just by the time since last feeding. They do not always gain steadily. Mine did hold pretty close to the growth chart predictions though. Any pictures? I never get tired of looking at Yorkie puppy pics. |

I'm sorry to say Lola is not with her mother . the mother had a c- section and didn't made milk for 3 puppy. it was the breeder first time breeding and at the same time her grandson got sick. he was in the hospital. to help her i got one of the dog. she is doing good .she is 6 week now.... |
That is too bad. It would have been nice if she could have stayed with mom and her siblings for the socialization. Do you know how big the parents were? What are you feeding your baby? I hope she does well for you. We are here to help you if you have any questions. |

thank you . the mother is 3 1/2 lb . she have two yorkie male one is 2 1/2 lb and the another one is 9lb. she said the small one was the father . i think the baby is to big for her age. |
No wonder the poor momma had to have a c-sections. She was way to small to breed. I hope she does not breed her again. Your baby is not too big for her age. I think if she is 4 or 5 lbs grown then that is a nice size. The really small yorkies make me nervous, I prefer the ones over 5 lbs. |
