heat cycle
 
My daughter's yorkie has had one heat cycle and that was last november. She has been licking herself for the last week and a half but no blood or swelling, but my boy was acting real interested a couple of days ago, as was the rest of my yorkie family including the girls. Have we missed it? she is here now but he doesen't seem interested anymore. She isn't a stranger to my dogs,so I figured she was comming into heat. My friend who worked for the vet for 20 yrs says sometimes they may not bleed a lot. Any help would be appreciated. I hope we haven't missed it, cause she was really wanting to breed her.

I have heard that they don't always bleed a lot. The heat cycle last 3 weeks 1 wk coming 1 wk in and 1 wk going out. The 2nd week is when the female is receptive. Whether you missed it or not. That I don't know. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks anyways, I know the cycle, but just wondered if she might have had a light one. maybe she just isn't ready.

Speaking of heat cycles....how soon after having puppies and weaning them will a female resume her heat cycles? I haven't seen this info anywhere.....

a females heat cycle doesnt change normally - example: if your girl is a 8 monther lets say October, your litter will be due in December and her heat will occur again June

Thanks a bunch! My girl, Bitsy had her pups in May, so I guess she'll be coming around again in November. Does that sound about right? If so, I might get her some panties and let her rest a cycle. Gives a whole new meaning to "keep your pants on" doesn't it? :animal-sm
