millies pregnant but not eating her own food vet confirmed 4 and half week pregnant today, however she wont eat her dried kibble, she had a little chicken earlier. Any advice i dont want her to get eclampsia by eating wrong foods, it is only her food she wont eat. My vet said give her own food only just slightly increase and feed little and often as pregnancy continues.no need for any supplements or eggs or cottage cheese which i quoted to having read on internet. I am so excited, he confirmed 4 pups but said there could be more, up to now she has put on 4 oz in weight thats just over 100g, and lost the weight she is back to her normal weight of 5lb 5. Thanks in advance xx |
my vets also said not to load them up with calcium stuff because if we do it for them then their bodies wont know how much to make..(or something like that) anyways, i think the chicken and rice is good for her when she isnt eating, ad some broth or gravy to her normal food for added flavor hope that helps |
Try heating up some beef or chicken broth to add on top of her food. Or you can try giving her some rice cooked in broth as well and see if she will start eating that. She might have an upset tummy ( I know I do cause I feel her pain, due in 4 weeks). Rice will sooth it a bit, its what we feed all our dogs when they have upset bellies. Good luck on getting her to eat! |
I had this problem with Ellie when she was first pregnant. She didn't start eating well, until I did the following. I purchased some canned puppy food, heated about 2 tbsp in the microwave for 45 seconds (it smells really bad), mixed it in with her dry kibble. She ate it up like crazy. She ended up gaining 3lbs while she was pregnant. Now we have 5 healthy babies. |
She might be experiancing some "morning sickness". My female had a loss of appetite and vomited a little for about a week early in her pregnancy due to morning sickness. Millie will get her appetite back and start eating more soon I am sure. I always boil some chicken breast (chopped very small) to mix with their dry whenever any of my babies start being finicky eaters. You might want to try that. Do you free feed......leave the bowl down for her all the time? Maybe if you do that, she will eat when her tummy feels up to it. Good luck to you and keep us updated! |
