Question...help Hi i wanted to know if any one has ever placed a pregnant female under anthestia (other then a c-section) what was your experience? Were the puppies ok? As some of you know my gidget had her eye ruptured over the weekend. The er dr said putting her under was a high risk to losing the babies or them being deformed. I made a appt with my regular vet to have her examined and his recommentiond for removing her eye. They mentioned on the phone the babies would be ok. She isnt due until april 8th. This is her third litter. (i actually tried separating them this time to give her a break and they are really really determined litter buggers when they want something. Any one have any experience with placing a pg mama under for surgery? Thanks, |
I haven't the slightest clue of any advice to give you regarding this. But I am very sorry to hear about her accident and hope for the best for you both and the puppies. :( |
Thanks bama its been a little rough at home with her hurting. She is blind now in one eye, and the eye looks terrible because we havent removed it yet. But she still has some wag in her tail thank the good lord for that. |
I've seen bigger dogs have life saving surgery go under but for no more than 5 minutes (any more and the puppies would risk dying). I would call around some more and see what other vets say before you really decide on what to do. Good luck, and I'm sorry about her poor eye! |
thank you im assuming, removing the eye and sewing it shut will take longer. i will call around. im thinking of having her spayed as well while she is under. i dont guess it would be good to breed her again. if everything goes well i will keep one baby and then retired her and my other female. |
Did you ask your vet if there was a possiblity or an infection that could take her life if you didn't want to risk losing the puppies. I would say that if there is major risk to her health to go ahead with the surgery. If not I would wait it out for her to have the litter (so you can keep one). Is there any other reason, besides the eye, of why you would want to retire both your girls? |
HI the ER doc said they could take it out now, at the risk of causing a miscarriage or deformed puppies, which im thinking more pain for her. so that means if that happens she is back at the hospital for a c-section or something, and i really hate the thought of losing her babies BUT she is more important to me. i would just like to keep one now. we are moving in 45 days to our house we just bought so now i have the room to have as many as i want, plus no landlord to say anything. the vet i normally go to, mentioned on the phone i had nothing to worry about. and i really love this vet. they have worked on my moms dogs and foster dogs. the one female is to old, she has had two litters one at 4.5 and one just recently at 6. both times they were breech, and we actually lost one this time. Neither of my female will remove the sacks (i guess because i always do it) so that puppy suffocated i think. gidget im not sure how ppl would react to her if i was trying to place puppies. i still love her and think she is beautiful but what if some one else doesnt? it would 1. make me sad and 2. i would probably smack the crap out of someone who said anything =) she is still young, do you not see a problem breeding her later on down the road? |
infection part: they said to try the medication for 2 weeks to see if that keeps it free of infections, but that was only a 40% chance...??? not sure if thats acurate or not imo |
Congrats on the bigger house! I need one, 2 skin babies, my pair of yorkies, my husbands dog, and two cats are to much for my little house. Good luck with your little girl. Its so sad that this happened. Do what you think is best for her! She will love you either way! |
yes thank its nice and big 2200sq plenty of space to run, one level im a little worried they said to check for drainage and put her eye drops in but her ey is mucked up and one corner is got a thick kind of drainage i think, its looks bloody. im on the phone waiting for the vet now |
Doesn't sound good. Let us know what the vet says. |
I'm sorry to hear about your mamma dog and babies. I hope that with what ever decision you make, it all goes well. |
