Best advice you have ever received? Bella is expecting her first babies in about 5 days. I am a a nervous wreck but I have had some great support from some Yorkie Talk members including the wonderful Janis at Hendrick House. I have already found wonderful homes for the babies, including my vet, his tech, and a coworker who is already a yorkie mom. So I don't think I could possibly find better homes for these little blessings. So, I was just curious, what is the best breeding advice you ever received?:aimeeyork |
Expect the unexpected and you will always be as prepared as humanly possible. Nothing is ever text book when it comes to breeding Yorkies and whelping. |
Stay calm, it will happen when it happens. |
Stay calm, I always have someone with me to help just in case, And always (it alsways worked for me) go with your gut. If your gutt feeling is telling you there is something wrong, go with it. |
We just had our first litter 6 weeks ago and the BEST advise that I got was to stay calm, I felt I was as prepared as I was going to be,since it was so unexpected and KEEP the computer ON... :D everytime I felt I needed to ask something I did and almost all the time someone answer me back which made me feel a WHOLE lot better.. also I had my Emergency Vet on speed dial in my cell phone and the regular vet on the house line...LOL other than that, enjoy the experience and hope everything goes well for you and your girl.. hugs, Carmen in nj:) |
The liver remedy for fading puppy, saved a 5 day old puppy, I had last year. Cheryl |

Make sure you have all supplies readily available and your Vet's number near by. If you can make sure you have the numbers of experienced breeders. Write everything down. And don't panic. I have Terri Schumski's how to buy and raise a healthy dog close by.....great stuff on whelping. Have Goat's Milk with equal parts of distilled water, 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of Karo Syrup ready for mom. Nutra Drops for pups (administer a drop onto the pups gums when they're born) also great for mom if you find her lagging. |
Dont have puppies. LOL |

That is great advise. Thank you. I have all my supplies all ready to go (except replacement milk), even though my little girl is only going through her first heat now (just so I am prepared). I have also heard that if you can't have someone with you for you to stay calm (like many have said) and have a good book or movie to curl up with through the long nights that could be coming. It helps keep you distracted during the down times, and is easy enough to ignor when the big event starts happening. Good luck!:) |
