Goats Milk!! Hi all in America! Just wanted some of your opinions on Goat Milk! Maisey had 5 pups, 1 being really tiny! They are all doing extremely well as they approach 4 weeks old on Tuesday and have been eating Pedigree Puppy Food for the last week. They are soo fat!!!! Mum had now been taken off the goats milk, she would have 2 dishes a day and also in the b eginning of weaning the pups, i did put some in their food but in the last few days, ive weaned them off the goats milk. Ive been told its the best substitute milk to give other than lactol. What do you breeders think? |
i know a lot of the breeders on here and some top notch show breeders swear by it but my vet is set against it. One of the first litters I had, I asked advice on here for a teeny, tiny baby and was told to give it goats milk. I did and on the second day, the baby bloated, had bloody diarreha and died at 2.4 ounces. My vet said it was the goats milk that even with water added, it is too rich and basically, I killed my puppy. Never again will I use Goat's Milk. i thought since the person that recommended it was a big time show breeder that she knew more than I did. For that reason i will NEVER ask for or follow advice given by anyone on here again. My experience might have been one in a million but a dead puppy wwas one too many. I am glad your mum and babies are doing so well. Sounds like you had a nice litter. Congratulations!!!!!! |
I have raised lots of puppies and many wild animals on goats milk. I also feed it to my nursing mothers. I Feed it in baby cereal for the puppies to start eating . I haven't had any problems. |
:)I have raised Goats and I know that Goats milk is one of the most digestable substitutes you can give. It has been used in the raising of many types of orphans. I still have some frozen in case I need it for my own puppies. (although I have never personnally used it on puppies, because I have never had pups yet.) But I do know other goat owners who have used it for pups. |
I SSSOOO wish I still had goats - unfortunately I have to use canned goat's milk. |
I know, I really miss those little goats sometimes, they are so very sweet and loveable. You could easily find a farm that probably has fresh goats milk at this time of the year, as most of the goat births happen at this time of the year. I took a gallon or so and put them in little ice cube trays and froze them so if I need some I will only take one or two cubes out of the freezer at a time and the rest stays fresher that way. You could call the 4H people and get connected with someone who has goats that way. |
I feed it to omy nursing moms and to the puppies, once they are about 4 weeks old. I use the kind in the can that you dilute with water. Start with a small amount with the puppies. |
It is healthier for a human baby to have goats milk than formula if it cannot breastfeed. We raised a foal up who's mom died just after birth on goats milk. We bought ours from a goat farm, so it was fresh. Pasturizing goats milk, just like with cows milk, pretty much takes all the nutrition out of it. |
