Is this normal?!?! Ok this is weird, am I grossed out or is this normal?!?! My yorkie had puppies a week and 3 days ago, I have noticed that when the puppies pee or poo the mama eat and drinks it. My husband and I were really grossed out because we let mama kiss us EWWWWW lol....I know that their mouths are clean but just the thought of that is just really gross....:sickie: |
i dont know if all dogs do it but just wait till she overeats and then serves it to the puppies. yup regurgitate and feeds them. we had a mommy that did that i am was sitting near the pen and yeah .......... GROSS! sitting somewhere else! not watching you take care of the babies! |
:) Yes this is normal...mama has to stimulate them so that they can potty until they get older.. |

Yes...it's completely normal. Newborn pups need their moms to lick their bottoms to help them to potty. If the momma dog did not do this, you would have some messy puppies on your hands in no time. :D Trust me when I say...stinky, messy, poopy puppies are a lot more gross then the thought of momma cleaning up after them. :yelrotflm |
LOL! If you think thats gross just you wait! The mama will stop cleaning up after them once weaning gets under way, then you will have some messy pups on your hands! Stock up on newspapers and pee pads NOW:p |
The momma will continue eating the puppy poop until the pups are 4 to 6 weeks old. Usually once you start feeding the pups (around 4 weeks) the diapering will slow down and you might get an opportunity to start picking up puppy poop if you are fast enough.:) As soon as the pups are walking I put down a small double sided bowl of ground up dry puppy food. Just leave this dry food down along with a separate bowl of water and before you know it the pups will be eating on their own and mom will start weaning them. I always let the momma continue to nurse the pups so the weaning process is slow and not stressful to the puppies or momma. |
