Help me help me..... So I have a bit of a problem.... When my yorkie was a year and a half old my husband and I were wanting to breed it so we could have more dogs (not to sell) then we started reading up on all the complications they could have so we decided not to breed our dog.....Well, my mom has a male dog and not thinking of anything or thinking it would take because it was the end of her period cycle and I had stepped out of the room and noticed the dogs had tied and our dog had puppies a week ago....I have even mentioned to my mom that we didn't want the dogs to mate....well she came over and she mentioned that she couldn't wait to pick a dog, and my husband was kinda confused and asked her why she said that and she said well I could either pick a dog or charge you for a studding fee....My husband wants to keep all 3 dogs, so I'm stuck in the middle! My mom wants one and I know that if I don't give her one she will be upset at me and my husband doesn't think she should get one....Ahhhhh I'm confused! |
Well girlie.. first off you were not looking for stud service.. it happened.. and are they full yorkies... and to me she is not to get one.. there was no aggreement.. Now on the other hand... keeping two at once is plenty really.. same age and harder to train as one gives the other dog bad habits... u will go nuts trying to handly and properly train two at once.. but it is doable.. I would just simply say to your hubby... mom should get one.. that dog is going to be so you can see this fluff butt go... If it were his mother... would he feel the same.... you need not be stuck in the middle and you need to tell both of them that they are both putting you in a bad position on this situation... post pictures.... and hope it all works out... |
I would give my Mom one in a minute even if she wasn't the grandma. I want to go back to Sunday dinner..lol |
just my 2 cents I think she is entitled to a pup agreement or not.Whether or not you wanted to mate them your(both) negligence (no offense) enabled this to happen and the dad is her dog. Not to mention she is your MOTHER! and there were three pups, share and let your husband know this is not negotiable. |
I would give your Mom a pup |
As I understand it, there was no plan for breeding, therefore there was no contract or agreement to use your mom's dog as the stud. So the truth of the matter is that your mom is not entitled to a "pick of the litter" stud fee. That is not to say that you can't give her one if you choose to. If my mom ever wanted one of my puppies, she would definitely get one, just because she is my mom.:) |

Hahaha! Well, here's my two cents. How about a compromise and let your Mom have a pup - just not first pick :D |
thats your mon agreement or not thats your mom and her stud tell hubby to be real and share. |
Legally, she has not right to one.......no contract or agreement. But to keep the peace and because she "is" your mom, I would see that she gets one. I am sure if you tried hard enough and explained how much "work" three pups in the house at one time plus the mom is going to be.........the vet expense, etc.; your husband will come around and agree she should get a pup. You can make it sound really difficult to keep all three.......work it woman, I know you can convince him and he will never even know what hit him. But she should not get pick of the litter. :p |
I think you should definitely give your mom a puppy if for no other reason but to keep peace in the family. If it weren't for your mom's dog you would not have the 3 little bundles of joy. |
life is to short!!! give her a pup keep the other two!!!!have a good day Patti and Holly :D |
I would give mom a pup just to shut her up but I woujld pick the ones I wanted first. But, as far as to "is she entitled" NO!!!!!!!!! Especially if your dog was at her house when the "accidental" breeding took place. She was very careless to allow it and it might not have been an accident at all. Just my two cents.:D |
Thank you all.... Thank you all for all of your responses....I totally agree with all of you! I understand that all 3 pups would be a handful that's for sure, but....they are so darn CUTE! lol... I wouldn't want my mom to be upset with me for the reason that she didn't get a pup.... My husband is freakin stubborn! you guys need to call him and give him a little talking to....ARGH! :doh34: |
By the time they reach 12 weeks you might find that he has a different opinion;) When our staff's pups are ready to go its a mixture of emotions! On one hand you know that you will miss them but on the other your glad to have your home back to normal! Its very hard work having a litter of pups around! And at least you will still be able to see the pup all the time without the added work and expense;) |
Also, keep in mind that you will have to take lots of precautions to prevent accidental breedings with these siblings. Since you and your mom already have unaltered dogs it might be best to plan ahead on how you will keep all these dogs separated when the females start coming in heat. Also think about all the work and stress involved in keeping them separated when the females come in heat. How many males and females are in the litter? Of course if your plans are not to breed any of them you really should get the females spayed. Please keep up posted on how things work out. |
