Stud question. What are good qualities in a stud? |
stud A stud dog should be an excellent representation of the standard. He should be sound and correct as possible. Outgoing, friendly, Yorkie temperment, not hyper or timid either. Healthy, free of as many genetic disorders as possible. Sound structure and movement. Good pedigree is vital. A title of championship is a must for some breeders. I will use an untitled male if he is of excpetional quality. Most importantly..he should PRODUCE pups of consistantly good quality..ideally they should be as nice as the sire and better is a major bonus. |
So, size & weight would need to be as close to the standard as possible or is it ok if the stud was larger then the standard? |
size No, it is in no way okay for a stud to be over the standard in size. |
If you mate your female with an oversized male, the puppies might be too big for her to pass, and if your female is oversized too, then all your puppies will be too big, why would you want that! |
YorkieRose...Pat...has been doing this a long time. She has the up most respect here and I would definitely follow her advice! |
Ok, thank you guys. |
Thanx, Pat, for saying it like it is. Sometimes we get so into making someone feel good or worry about hurting their feelings that we really lose sight of telling the absolute bottom-line truth, I am not saying we should be hateful or hurtful to the person, but we are so interested in our wonderful little Yorkies that we really want to breed as close to the breed standard as possible, whether we are talking about Yorkies or Biewer Yorkshire terriers. |
