taken in a very young puppy Hi everyone Sorry for the double post.. I have written in a different forum but everyone recommended me to contact the breeders forum. We have adobted a small girl from a breeder that had to get rid of her pups. Pookie is around 4 weeks, we think. She is staring to get her K9 teeth in her upper mouth. Breeder told us she is used to eat wet dry food so we are currently feeding her Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy food with water. She eats 5-6 times per day and drinks water. Her poop started getting a little wet this morning. She spends most her day sleeping in her crate or with us or Max her big brother. At night she sleeps in the bed room in her crate with a heater and with Max. Now my question is, is it ok to feed her wet dry food in such an early age? What else should we be feeding her? Anything we should take into consideration? Vet will open tomorrow and we will take her there for a check up but we are in China and Im afraid that will just give her some shots and send me home without advise!!! |
She is too young for shots. That could kill her if she is small. Shots shouldn't be given until 6-8 weeks at least and even that is debatable. If he gives you anything, I would think it would only be wormer. Give her puppy food and yes wet it a bit so she can eat it easier as she doesn't have her teeth in. Your main concern at this age is that she eat, drink and be kept quiet and warm. Good luck with her. |

Ok...4 weeks old...my pups are still nursing only sooooooo with that said, here are some ideas for you: ..I would buy some moms milk replacer....and make that up for the pup. Served warm, but not hot...more like a babies bottle. If the pup is drinking and lapping on its own then you can give it in a saucer, if not I would definatley bottle feed. I would also get some nutrical or something simular. Another suggestion is to take the dry kibble and put in in the blender and and blend it into small small small pieces. You can also mash up canned food mixed with the milk replacer. Don't be afraid to offer her a variety of different choices of food because you want to make sure this little one is eating and eating alot. They can go down fast and at 4 weeks old, she should still be getting mom's milk. I hope some of these ideas will work for you. I use all of these when I wean my puppies to food, but they are still nursing at the same time as well. She is adorable!!! Quote:

Frist of all I gotta say how beautiful she is, she is adorable. To me she looks older than 4wks, she looks as though maybe she could be around 6/7 wks. Its the ears an so much color in her that is telling me this. Anyway the advice you have gotten so far seems good to me. Please keep us updated. |
I cant find any moms milk replacer.. But I have found something called Magic Puppy Energy Milk from a company called X-Power Institute of animal Nutrition. Premex Inc. it contains 35% protein, 29% fat, 5% moisture, 3% fibre & 2% ash.. we will try this combine with her normal puppy food. this is the only imported product I can find here in China at the moment. |
we cant find anything online for this product.. Going to trash it and make our own! |
Esbilac Puppy Milk Replacer Liquid, 12 oz I have used this. Try researching this where you are. |

She still doesnt have much balance.. We think she will be just fine... We will keep on feeding her every 2 or 3 hours when she wakes up to pee. |
