Doggie PMS? Last night and tonight Rhianna was up on the couch with me. When Brody tried to come over and get on the couch she went at him like a crazy person. Last night I just figured he must of startled her and her first defense was to lash out . . .but when it happened again tonight I was like ok, something must be going on. All day long and even when we go to bed, they play and get along and have no issues . . .so I'm just wondering if she's going to start her heat cycle and is having some sort of PMS? She will be 8 months old on Sunday (2/1). |
Yep, I am afraid she might be having some PMS. She might be getting ready to come in heat or she could just be getting a bit jealous. |

That's what I thought . . .this morning all she wanted to do was have me pick her up . . .she wasn't running all around and giddy as normal . . .I still can't tell if she is getting swollen or not as it looks the same . . but her mood is definetely different. Also Brody is sniffing there a little more than normal . . .I think its the calm before the storm . . . |
I hope you are prepared for 3 weeks of misery because you will have two very unhappy kids once they are separated. |
I think I am prepared . . .is one ever truly prepared? This will be my first experience with it, so this is the reason why I say "think" I've decided that Brody will be upstairs with my kids during Rhianna's cycle as they have the entire upstairs to themselves. Brody will still have company and be able to lay in the sun as well . . . |
That sounds like a good plan. I know even with the best laid out plans accidents can happen. Just make sure the kids know too they have to be separated for the full 3 weeks or a little longer. How old is Brody? |
Brody turned 2 on January 17th . . .:D He's an absolute doll! My kids are 19 and 15 so I've given them explicit instructions that he will not leave the upstairs unless I'm taking him outside . . .my son is already moaning and groaning about it . . .he's the 15 year old . . .I told him he can take the "moody one" upstairs if he didn't want Brody, but that changed his tune.:p |
Have you used Brody for breeding before? Hopefully he will not be stressing too much. I have females in heat now and everyone is on edge, boys and girls. It drives me nuts. |
No, he has not been bred yet, although he did have his health screenings done by my vet . . .he was supposed to stud , but unfortunately the woman who had the female had a terrible misfortune . . her yorkie ran out and got hit by a car . . . I wish there was some sort of definate tell tale sign that Rhianna was in heat, besides her grumpy gussness and she may be slightly swollen it's hard to tell . . . . .I see no bleeding . . . No puppies for me until she is at least 2 . . .I have another 2 heat cycles to get through . . .I should be a pro by then . . .you'd figure . . .;):D |
I am pretty sure you will know when she is in heat. I have been raising yorkies for 12 years and I never had one come in heat that I did not know about. I have heard of silent heats but have never experience that with any of my females. |
Wow, 12 years! That is awesome! I love yorkies . . .I had my first one when I was 9 . . .my sister used to raise them . . .I think it'll be hard for me if I decide to breed them . . .I'm not sure I can give any pup up . . .:( My yorkies are like my kids . . .actually my kids think I treat Brody & Rhianna better than them. . .:p Rhianna is now romping around and playing like always . . .no grumpiness like this morning and last night . . .soooo it brings me no closer to figuring this out yet . . . |
Is it true some start to pee all over the house before they start their cycle? My girl is 10 months old and she has been very bad the past 2 days with peeing all over the house including my bed this morning!! Please- someone help!!! |

Last night it was on my hardwood floor and it was "normal" color. I guess I should have her tested for a urinary. Thanks for your reply. Michele |
I noticed that as well with Rhianna. She was peeing a lot and not just on her pads. Her heat cycle did end up starting on 2/12 and we are just about done . . .thank god! I have to say though it wasn't extremely bad until 2/24 that is when Brody started freaking out upstairs . . .but, today, 3/4 he actually ate like normal and was acting like normal. He has gotten a good 3 nights of full sleep, as well as the rest of us. I can't wait to reunite them . . .I know they miss each other . . .I'm hoping to do so this weekend, but I will have to wait and see. |
Sometimes it is hard to judge color on a wood floor. It could have a slight tinge or blood that would be hard to detect. Also urine that is clear and odorless is an indication of kidney problems. Hopefully your girl is just 'acting out' for some reason or another and she has nothing medically wrong. Please let us know if you find anything out or if her behavior continues. Are you planning on getting her spayed? |
thanks for your response. Do you think it would be ok to wait to see how she is acting for the next day or two? I do plan on getting her spayed soon, I just keep putting it off as I am scared to have her go through that. She is only 2.5 lbs and of course I baby her tooooo much. |
I think if she is urinating frequently I would get her to the vet as soon as possible. If she is just urinating in the wrong places but not frequently then I think it would not hurt to wait a little while. Has she been eating well? What kind of diet is she on? I can understand you wanting to wait a little while on the spay. It is hard to know when the best time is to have it done. Personally, I would wait until about 6 weeks after her 1st heat. |
You are RIGHT! I am calling the vet right now to make an appointment for her. At least I will be able to rest know she is healthy and just being a "yorkie" She has been eating her normal amounts. I feed blue buffalo dry and wet. Thank you so much for your thoughts |
