after whelping: dam still has runny poo! Any of you have this problem. My six babies are about 14 days old now and my girl still has the runs. Usually it is solidified with my other girls after a few days. She is on monthly interceptor, and no changes in diet?? Any suggestions or does this fall into the norm category. I don't really want to expose her to the vet and take her away from the babies if it is not necessary! Already did that with the dews/tails and she had a heart attack :-) Thanks! |
Have you taken a stool sample to the vets? With all the stress of having puppies she may be having a coccidia outbreak. Have you tried giving her canned pumpkin? When I have a new momma that has diarrhea I always give them a product that I keep on had from Revival called diarsanyl, there is also a product call DiaBac. Also albon works great for diarrhea. I really feel that this has been going on too long and you really need to get her stool checked. If it is coccidia then she will pass it to her puppies. I hope she gets better soon. |
Well usually my vet is a stickler for telling me to bring in the actual girl, but he said I could drop off a stool sample. I haven't had to deal with coccidia, but have read plenty on it. I have never had that issue with my girls so I hope its just something else. ! Anything else. LOL! I have used pumpkin on the babies just wasn't sure if it would be ok with her nursing. At first I just figured consumption of the placentas was the cause but it has been more than adequate time for her to get over that-I believe :-) Anyways going to leave here shortly with the poo! He's great so I'll have the results back shortly after I give it to him. Thanks :-) |

Well fecal was negative. He tests in depth. He did say some pumpkin in moderation (with no spices) would be fine to use and keep her hydrated. She is eating and drinking fine, so I will just keep an eye on her. He said to switch to bottled water as well since I am on "well" water. He said he has seen alot of "stomach viruses" lately  My pumpkin eating pumpkin:D |
