Belly Band or Diapers? Hi, I'm new to these forums and I have a ton of questions and by joining YT I'm hoping to gain knowledge from seasoned YT members on what to expect from my "kids" What do you find works best the belly band or diapering? Rhianna will be 8 months old on Feb 1st and she has not had her first heat yet. I have purchased diapers for her and the belly band for Brody. I know she can come into heat at any time and I want to be fully prepared for that day. I keep checking for signs of her coming into heat . . but nothing yet that I can distinguish. My vet says to watch for swollenness, bleeding, etc. Brody always is sniffing her there, so of course, I pick her up to see if I can see anything . . . Any advice on what to use and how you can tell besides the visual that she might be coming into season? Thanks.:) |
Belly bands and diapers will NOT prevent an unwanted breeding. Seperation during the heat cycle is the only sure way to do this |
That will be hard because they are like two peas in a pod. So a closed door would be better than a baby gate I'm assuming? I'm sorry if I'm coming off stupid, but I'm trying to gain the most knowledge by asking many questions. |
The best thing you can do is keep them totally separated. Many have been know to wiggle right out of their diapers and belly bands when the urge hits. |
Belly bands AND diapers.............. ......and full clothing, and baby gates, and closed doors!!! To be absolutely positive in preventing preganancy, you need it all. I assume you plan on breeding them when they are old enough, otherwise they would be spayed and neutered? It could be a crazy 3 weeks or more when she does go into heat as the male will bark, whine, & scratch at closed doors wanting and trying to get to the female. Do not let them near each other unless you have your eyes on them at all times. It only takes a minute for them to get at each other. Good luck! |
Yes, I have heard about the nuttiness . . I haven't informed my husband yet of that . . .lol My whole problem is that neither are or have been crated, so that is definitely not an option . . .another issue is the sleeping arrangements since they both sleep with us . . .I guess I'll be taking Brody to the spare bedroom with me for three weeks . . .or not sleeping at all.;) I haven't made a decision on breeding them or not as of yet. It's a major decision and I'm doing lots of research on it. It's, for me, almost like preparing for your own child and I know a lot of time and experience has to go into it. I think I'm going to need all the luck I can get . . .and maybe a pair of earplugs and a nice bottle of wine . . .;) |
When they start throwing a scent, Cody wears a belly band, whe they are in heat, I have to put a baby diaper around him (like you would a belly band) and put him in a onsie because he would go crazy as any male does and that has prevented unwanted pregnancy so far. Now when the diaper and onsie comes off (only to potty) they are separated. |
