heat cycle my molly dog is def. in heat but i can never tell when she starts bleeding because she keeps it so clean there is never really any blood. I do know that this time around she started bleeding today and she got super swolen today. i guess what im asking is when is the best time to introduce her to the male? thank you so much. |
Is this her first heat? |
If you are unsure when her most fertile days are, then it would be worth the effort to have progesterone testing done. Even then though, it's somewhat crucial to be able to determine the onset of her cycle. You should have a good general idea of when it *should* start, the rest just takes constantly keeping an eye out and watching very closely for various signs. Things that you should be aware of and educated on before actually breeding her. Given that she is only a little over a year old, I'm kind of leaning towards thinking that waiting until her next cycle, giving her a little more time to mature and yourself more time to prepare, would be better. Of course, you can still have progesterone testing done THIS time around and store the results away to memory for future use.:) Good luck and welcome to YT. |
no, this is not her first heat, she was around my husbands dog which is not fixed (and way to big to be a threat to molly) and that always got her going for some reason. she has had 4 now, so I will keep watching her this is actually the first time she had leaking blood, all the other times she was just super swollen and kind of wet down there a lot. Thank you for the reply! |
Is she flaging yet:) |
yes she is, and even more swollen, it looks like its going to explode down there! :( |
Then I would say if she is standing or flaging its time to breed her. Is she still bleeding? |
update she is still flagging some, but she is ever so swollen and has a slight discharge more than she has blood is this usual? She is so swollen it is becoming hard for her to walk straight :( |
I am pretty new to watching the heat cycle this close, but if it is a pinkish/clear/ or something along those lines it could mean she has ovulated and is ready to be bred. (If that is the case, then she would have already gone through the bleeding part and it has turned to the 2nd phase which is the clear-ish fluid) That may be helpful. -now someone else with more experience may come in tell you something different but that's what I have learned to look for so far. |
thank you so much for all of your help YT members!!! |
