How old should a puppy be when your other dogs are allowed to be around it. With the other tragic thread I was wondering... My baby girl is 4 weeks and I thought it would be safe..now I am wondering and keeping them apart again. |
I didn't let mine around the others until they were 6 weeks, but Lexie wouldn't let anyone around them the first week, she would bite their heads off. After awhile she begin to let them play with the others, but thats when I only had the one female, Lexie, so I don't know. I went in to check on Blossom and Tarra snuck in the room behind me, before I know she was there, Blossom came after her, I picked her up, thinking she was just curious at what was in there crying I walked over to the play pen and let her look in, I am still holding her, so Blossom jump up on the side and acts like she is wanting to be nice to Tarra, as soon as Tarra got close enough, Blossom tried to get her. Saying all of that, I don't know how long, I would see how they act around them, and be there all the time. Let me know what you do, cause I am going to need some advice with the dragon lady mom.:) |
I keep my pups pretty much separate until after they've had their first shots. I don't want an adult to bring something home from a show that may infect the babies. Once they have had their shots I take them outside weather permitting under close supervision. Before their shots I let the other dogs sniff at them and say hello when they are getting their one on one mommy time. |
i keep my puppies away from all except their mother until about nine weeks old then i start introducing them to the other dogs. I only leave them in a few minutes that first time and at the first sign of trouble, I remove them. each day, I extend the time. My computer is in my doggy room so i can keep an eye on them the whole time. They are usually completely in the 'big dog' room at about twelve weeks. |
Two shots and 11-12 weeks...I don't want to chance that the adults could pass something to them. Their immune systems are so fragile at that age. |
After the first shots (6-7 weeks), the puppies can be in an ex-pen in the family room with the other dogs. Depending on size of puppies and what season, after the 2nd shot I take the puppies outside or introduce the doggie door. I then begin supervised play between the family dogs and the puppies. |
