Questions about studding my dog out..... I put my dog on a stud website and I received a response, but I am somewhat nervous about dropping my dog off at a strange lady's house from the internet. What are some precautions that I can take in order to ensure that this is not a scam and my dog does not get stolen? |
Beyond your question about him getting stolen, I would worry much more about the possibility of disease or injury. It seems to me that if you don't know these people well enough to trust to leave your male, you probably don't know the history of the female and the level of breeding expertise of the owners. Why stud him out anyway? It would most likely change his behavior. |
You shouldn't drop your dog off at all honestly. Frist, if you are going to breed, the owner of the male should be boarding the female and second, I would never leave my dog with a stranger (except vets of course). Has pre breed testing been done on both dogs and do they both meet standard? Do you have a contract and does the owner of the female realize that she could lose her dog if she goes through with this? Do you know how to assist in the breeding and make sure that the female doesn't pull away? It can cause damage to both dogs if that happens and the female will be your responsibility. If no homes can be found, will you be able to help care for the pups so they don't go to a shelter? Will you be able to answer questions for the owner of the female (because she may be inexperienced)? And if your male's personality changes after breeding (and that is very possible), are you okay with that? He may live to breed and start marking. Just a few things to think about before you go ahead with this. |
i would never advertise on an internet stud site. You have to be much more careful with your male. he needs testing and so does the female. Now, if all this has been done, it is custom for the female to visit the male's home not the other way around so that should solve the dropping your dog off part. |
