10 mth old male and female yorkies I think he female was on heat for a bit but the male was unable to do anything. In the nights I put both of them in an extrememly large cage with bedding together inside. Is that fine? Are there any supplements I need to give them? |
I would suggest you wait until your dogs are a bit older to let them breed. It is usually not recomended for a female to get pg her first heat, as she is still very immature. There is also tons more for you to learn about breeding it seems even before that. This is a good place to learn, please reconsider keeping them together her first heat, JMO. :animal-pa |
I totally agree with francis53 . |
They're both just puppies, let them grow up some. The female's reproductive organs remain in baby size until her first heat. They mature with the first heat but she is neither physically or emotionally old enough to be a mother at that time. Don't think that just because your boy is young he can't breed. The sperm is immature but the drive is there. I'd suggest alot of homework and a mentor before you venture into breeding. |
Thanks so much. I am only curious.... I will also probably wait. As they are nearly 1 yr I was asking so as to get prepared if something happens. Do I have to put the 10 month old into some kind of supplements? |
If they are healthy , no supplements are needed . |
They are both too young to breed at this point. And keeping them in the same cage is NOT a good idea. You say that the male was "unable to do anything." He should have never been given the opportunity to try. Do not underestimate the two of them, even though they are only 10 months old. Luckily, you have plenty of time to do your research on breeding before they are at the age where it should be considered. |
That's kind of like 2 7-10 year olds having sex..? |
Silent Heat..Pregnancy boo boo I have tried keeping Jazz and Sophie apart,Sophie was in what I think is called a silent heat, the only sign being Jazz wanted her bad.He achieved his goal on saturday,I was very ill,but couldn't get them apart.I am hopeing it doesn't take since it is just the one time. Any suggestions?? I didn't know if I should go forward,or try to abort it.She is so little.I wanted to ring his neck!!! I was planning to breed them but not this soon.I would appreciate your feedback. She appeared in heat about a month ago,and he had no interest,it was just the dischage, then this showed up unexpectedly.I have never seen this happen.I have had chows and Bostons.Yorkies are a whole new ballgame.Bless her heart she looked so violated. |

She is about 5 pounds, and she will be a year old feb 17th. Are silent heat cycles common in yorkies?? |
If they tied, most likely she is pg. I would call the vet and have her spayed. You should always(if your'e going to breed) wait until they're at least 1 1/2 or 2nd heat cycle. |
what age can you start breeding a male? Hi, I am not a breeder yet. I am in that researching stage and will probably breed in 2 or 3 years (my breeder has agreed to mentor me). Anyways, I was kind of interested to know what the appropriate age is to breed a male at? I just haven't come across an answer in my research yet? |
