Stupid question? I have one....
 

I know this sounds silly, and you all are probably laughing at me, but I have a serious question that I need an answer too.

I have ALWAYS had kitties, until 1 1/2 years ago. I got Joey my chihuahua. Then Dora. She is 7 1/2 months old now.... So, I still am VERY new to this. Ask me any question about cats and I probably can help. Dogs, not so much:rolleyes:

Dora went into heat on her 7 month old birthday exactly. I knew she was going into heat, because her vaginal area was really pink and swollen. I then seperated her and Joey, and kept them apart (other than monitered play times). My husband also let them out, but watched them closely.

Anyways, she bled for a few days, and her heat ended about 10 days ago. Skip forward to yesterday.

Her little nipples are VERY swollen and tender. They actually feel like little boobies. Could it be possible that she is pregnant? Could she have gotten pregnant before the swelling? Would her nipples get that swollen that soon?

I have absolutely NO intention of breeding my dogs. They are NOT show/breed quality.

Could it be a result of her first heat, the swelling of nipples?

Should I get her fixed ASAP? The vet does not want to because she is still so tiny and young. He wants to wait until 1 year. BUT if there is a possibility she could be pregnant, I would MAKE them do it. HELP PLEASE!

No question is a stupid question...........that's how we all learn. :)

To answer it, to the best of my knowledge, a dogs nipples will become more prominent when then have their first heat cycle, and will stay that way more so than before even after the heat has ended. If they are bred and become pregnant, the nipples (and breasts themselves) will become even more noticeable. So, unless there was a tie during her heat cycle, I'd say you're more than likely okay and Dora is not pg. Did you know that a heat cycle lasts for about 21 days.......day 9-16 (give or take a few days) being their most fertile time? Hopefully you kept Joey and Dora separated and/or watched closely for the entire heat cycle.
My Halle had her first heat in November and her little nipples are still more pronounced than they were before she went into heat.......but she is NOT pregnant.
