Anxiously awaiting arrival of Daisy's first litter...
 

:)Hello everyone! I am new to Yorkietalk and so excited because we are awaiting the arrival of my daughter's little Daisy's first litter...we are pretty sure she is on day 61...first tie was on November 9th...she started showing symptoms of whelping on Monday...she lost her mucus plug and had some vomiting...temp was around 98.6 but then over the last few days went back up and has fluctuated between 100.1 and 99.3...is this pretty normal? The waiting is nerve racking...my daughter and I have been taking turns watching over her...so afraid she will deliver if we aren't there. I have experience birthing English Bulldogs but the Yorkies are so much small and more delicate...really nervous about the delivery...what other signs should we be looking for...she was eating fine tody and temp was 99.3 at lunch today...look forward to any advice you guys can give us! OMG sooo am i, lol my dogs due date is actually today, and the temperature thing has been giving me the run around, it drops then goes up and drops and goes up, lol enough to drive a anxious person insane!
well i've been watching her intensely all day for a sign that she will begin to whelp. Anyways on the 7th it was 101.1 in the morning, then at 5pm it dropped to 98.9 then went back up to 99.9 then today its been 98. something all day long, soo im guessing today is her due date. So enough with my rambling here is somethings ive read which have come too pass:

in one article i read that before the temp drops it will go up really high then dropped really low thats what happened on the 7th (yesterday) and today its been constantly 98. something
ive also read that not all dams lose their appetite before whelping, although mines has eaten alittle today, she certainly hasnt eaten as much as she been eaten the past days.
another thing is an upset stomach, my dog threw up yesturday morning, but hasnt since. she is panting right now as i type while trying to find a way out of her whelping box :confused:..
i wish all of this had substance however, i guess this wont really help much until she actually has her puppies, maybe tonight, maybe the next morning, i suppose ill keep you updated and look out for as many signs as possible as the hours creeps by...

Aww, welcome and CONGRATS, I can't wait to see the babies, my son's Taffy had puppies yesterday, I helped in welcoming them to the world.
is an incredible experience.. I will keep you in my prayers for a safe whelping..can't wait to see pictures..

Just because I just went through it, not because I am an expert, but Princess' temp dropped the very day she went into labor. She vomited once that day and when she started with the restlessness and panting, things were definitely under way. Good luck ladies!!!

We took Daisy to the vet today and she has three puppies and all are breach...we are so scared...if she doesn't have them over the weekend we are having a c-section on Monday...do you know how many you are expecting?

Hi,

Have any of your experienced breach births...all three of ours are breach and we are concerned for Miss Daisy...the vet said that they could be born just fine that way but I am still extemely concerned. I have read so many things that can go wrong in this situation...any encouraging stories would be appreciated...we are giving her until Monday and then C-section scheduled if she doesn't go on her own...wish us luck!:confused:

Hello, I have no experience with that, but I want to wish you and you girl BEST of luck, with the whelping..I know if my Taffy would have been in that situation I would go for the c-Section.

My little girl's first litter she had four and three were breech. She did fine no problems at all.

The vet thought they all would be but one turned before birth.

Thanks to everyone for all the nice wishes! We are getting very close now..her temp this morning was 98.3...I am so glad to hear that someone else experienced breach with no problems...the vet said she may deliver them just fine...we will just have to wait and see...will keep you all posted on the arrivals...hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Getting closer to having puppies...
 

Daisy's temp has been going down all day and at 6:00 pm this evening it was 97.9...what should we expect now...she is pacing and going in closets...goes to her box but then gets back out...is the 2-12 hour rule true once their temp reaches 97.9? Any feedback or experiences would be appreciated!!!

Sounds to me like you will be having a long & exciting night ahead of you. Keep a close eye on her; don't leave her alone. I had a female have a litter of pups a little over a year ago....she had 4 pups, two that were breech, all were born alive and well. Good luck to you & Daisy.

Temp down to 97.1...is that normal?
 

Temp has been dropping all day and was at 97.1 at 9:30 pm...is that normal? No signs of fluids or any contractions...how soon should this start?

Should probably be within 12-24 hours of the final drop. All girls are different. Just stay close by and watch her closely. Best of luck to you! They always seem to want to do this in the middle of the night! I don't know why! :D

:( Sorry it took so long to update everyone but unfortunately we were heartbroken. Daisy was in first stage of labor all night we took her to the vet next day and doc said she was doing good and had puppy coming down birth canal. They asked us to leave her with them and let them take care of it. The first puppy was very small and stillborn..the second had a birth defect and it had a herniated umbilical cord and didn't make it. We did get a healthy little boy and he is beautiful. My daughter is going to keep him. My precious little girls that I wanted so badly didn't make it and we were heartbroken. My daughter is not going to breed Daisy in the future. Thanks to all of you for your support and well wishes!!!

I'm sorry to hear about the 2 puppies not making it.:( But you have the 1 healthy boy to take care of and he will be so special to you. Your in my thoughts and prayers.
