What can I do to help my male, my bitch is in heat, and we are trying to make them tie, but he is not getting it!! He keeps humping her every were, but, the back. Yes, it's both of there first time. I have been reading all types of book, but just can't find the right info. Please help!!!:animal36

Johnna, it takes a lot of patience. I sit down on the floor in a fairly confined area and try to help the little fella "hit the hole". Once they tie for the first time, usually they are good to go. Many times we humans get anxious and try to rush the situation too much. If the stud is young he might be physically able but not mentally mature enough yet.

She is in her 2nd week, right? If she's still bleeding, then it's not time yet

It took our pair three heats to finally get it done. She was willing but he just didn't get the hang of it.

Finally, when our Daisy was at the correct time and would stand, my husband held her hind-end down a bit lower. Then I helped the male stay 'on target'.

I tried by myself the first year. Two people really is better when the male doesn't have clue. Our puppies are due this week.

With inexperienced dogs, I usually put a harness on each dog so I can use them as "handles" to help control the dogs. When the female is flagging, I sit on the floor and hold the female close to me. If the male is small, I put a towel down and stand the female in front of it. I use the males harness to help his stay in the right position as he tries to mount the female.

If they seem interested, but just not interested enough, I put my hand under the female's hips and kind of "wag" her rear in front of the male. Sometimes we even raise her up off the ground to make it harder for the male to get to her. For some reason this seems to arouse the males and they try harder to mount the female.

I find that "wagging" the female help too! lol! Koda prefers a challenge I guess! :D

Mocha will be 2years old March and Reese Cup will be 1 years old this month!! Mocha is on day 9 of her heat. The first sign of blood was on December 25th. Thanks so much for your help.
