Tying Once? URGENT REPLY Hi, i have someone bringing their bitch to me for breeding with my stud dog. they have travelled over 3 hours to get here. Will 1 mating with a tie be sufficicent do you think? I asked another breeder and they said it should be ok? URGENT REPLY PLS THANKS |
Murfee and Molly only tied one time and they gave us 3 little boys on December 21st. |
Once only! Hi thanks for that, its just that they are an old couple,i dont drive, so they had to travel over to me,they still are not here and its taken 4 hours now, so i dont fancy them doing the drive again to pic her up! He has not bred for over 2 months so should be very fertile, he is just 3 years old and the bitch is just 4 years old, so will just do the 1 mating, but if they want to stay for a few hours, he might do it again!"" thanks for your reply - Happy New Year! x |
I think it depends on if the girl is in season just right. Last heat sparkles tied only once and we didn't have any puppies. Just depends on the timing I think. Amanda:) |
Breeding them twice in one day will not improve yur odds of a pregnancy. Ovulation occurs around the 10th day of the bitches heat and the ovum mature around day 12. Fresh seman should be introduced around that time. It really depends on where she is in her cycle as to your chances of a litter. |
If they have done progesterone testing and know she is ready to be bred once is enough. If not, I'd have the girl stay and do 3 breedings, one every other day. Two in one day is no better than one in one day, except that if he has not been bred in 2 mos the first ejaculate might not have as many strong, viable sperm in it since they have been "sitting around" for a few months. It really is not a matter of how many breedings but a matter of timing. If you don't know if the timing is correct via bloodwork then you need to breed multiple times to try to cover the potentially fertile period. Yes, you might get lucky and it will take, but if it were my bitch I would not chance it. This is particularly important if it is her first breeding because at 4 they are starting a bit late and should try to avoid waiting for another heat cycle. |
