Yorkie and i are unsure Hello my name is b.j. And my baby name is zsa-zsa and she is a 4lb yorkie. zsa is 2 years old and she came into heat on Nov, 21,2008.this is the first time i notice,that week she was sad,the second week she had a play date over and they got stuck together.i was really shocked,this is my first female dog. my brother says she is pregnant now.Is this true?they got stuck on Nov 26,2008 when will the puppy come? also she is not eating now and she is whimpering,she has never done this before,ever! underneath her she has eight nipples but two of them(the second set) is bigger than the others.should i be worried about her not eating?should i take her to a vet? will i have to deliver the puppies? is it ok that she still sleeps with me? I know these are a lot of questions but can someone, any one please help me. i am so not sure about this and i think zsa-zsa is also unsure. Thank you |
Whoa boy... Yes, you should take her to the Vet since she is whimpering and not eating. Nutrition is very important to her and the babies. Yes, you will have to be there when she delivers, as she may need help. 4 lbs is pretty small to be breeding. I cannot stress how important spaying is. Females in heat can and usually do, get pregnant, as you now know play dates are not a good way of a planned breeding. Gestation is 58-65 days. Most average 61-63 days. You have 1 month left to learn all you can. Hopefully your Vet is helpful, search the web, and read all you can. The babies and your female's life are at risk if anything should go wrong, (and often does). Fingers crossed for a trouble free whelp! |
Thank you so much, I don't know what i will do if anything happens to her< but after we get through this and i pray that we will, zsa-zsa will not be anyones mother again. I will call her vet today. |
:thumbup::thumbup: Good luck! |
Wow! Such a small girl to be pregnant. Good luck, I hope everything turns out ok. How big is the male? Paula |
he was 4 lbs also. I pray that everything works out also. Thank you! |

I have babies that are 9 days old tonight.. first baby would not come out on her own, went to the vet straight away.. we lost the baby that was alive.. had two more, then the last baby came down one horn and started up the other horn, a c section had to be done.. we lost her too.. so I have two babies.. and mom was 6.1 pound prior to getting pregnant.. and she has had fluids given to her at the vets two days in a row.. now her temp is dropped again tonight and I am worried sick.. had I not been with my girl.. she would have or could have died... Breeding is so serious,, from one breeding to the next you do not know what to expect... please know this.. I have not slept a full night in 9 days.. anne |
Hi BJ, welcome to yorkie talk. It is a very exciting time when our babies are pregnant, but yes it can also be very scary; especially with one as small as zsa zsa. But it has been done before and is possible for her to have a trouble free whelp. A very helpful key is to LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN BEFOREHAND, HAVE YOUR VET OR AN E-VET CLINIC AVAILABLE SHOULD YOU NEED THEM, and BE PREPARED. If she tied with the male at the end of November, then she is probably due around the end of January so you have at least a month to read as much as you can. Many of us here on YT will gladly help anyway we can and you can also find information to read on past threads (do a search on pregnancy, whelping) and I also highly reccomend going to this website Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. . It has information on just about anything you will need to know from the heat cycle to the weaning of the pups. Go there, read it, re-read it, print things out, and re-read it some more. It was very, very helpful for me. Good luck to you and zsa zsa. Please keep us posted on her pregnancy & whelping. We're here for ya! |
