Question about possibly pregnant yorkie I have a question for any of you experienced breeders. My yorkie was bred on 11-7-08 and 11-8-08. There were a total of four ties. She should be due around the first week of January. I don't know if it is just me or what, but she seems to be looking skinnier than in previous weeks. She had been looking pretty full and now she just looks normal. I did de-worm her last week and she seems to look skinnier since then. I can feel her belly and it just doesn't feel like it felt before. I have not noticed any bleeding or anything, but this kind of scares me because I don't know why she would just stop looking pregnant out of nowhere. She is not lethargic at all and is still eating a lot. Is there any explanation for this or am I just going crazy? |
It could be that maybe she was never really preggers to begin with. Although if you timed it carefully and got 4 good ties, odds are good that she would be. Not all females show significantly at that age, but if you say she was before... |
I don't think you are supposed to de-worm pregnant dogs. You can worm them before they go into heat and right after they give birth (if you see worms). My Wilma is due January 5th and has a real full belly right now. Hopefully the puppies (if any) just shifted (??). Keep us posted on the outcome. Good luck! |
She had tapeworms and the vet recommended this particular wormer because it is specifically for pregnant dogs. It is just so weird because she does look pregnant right after she eats, but at times she just looks skinny. Yesterday it looked like she just had a lump on one side...maybe the pups are just moving around. She had four pups last time so maybe she is having less pups this time and she was also bred to a much smaller male this time as well. I guess us mommies just worry too much  |
I still don't think my dog looks pregnant. Have any of you ever had even one puppy when your dog did not look pregnant at all? I am crossing my fingers here.....She is due on the 3rd |
Take her to the vet. They can tell you. Mine is not showing much at all. Maybe just a little pudge. I had her to the vet yesterday the the xrayed showed 2 spines. |

Worms can make them look bloated and tapes can really take then down on weight, and take all the nutrition out of their body. Once you get rid of the worms you can see their true body weight minus the potty belly. Her belly could have been bigger due to the worms. Just a thought... I would start feeding her a good puppy food and mabey even supplement with some vitamins, you could ask your vet about that. If she is pregnant she and the babies will need to catch up on all the nutrition they lost due to the tape worms. Like another post said. Breed every other day for 5-6 days for best results. Sperm can live for up to 3 days so you don't need to breed 2 days in a row. Good luck and hope all goes well for momma and babies. |
I did breed her like that last time. I would have bred her that way this time too, but I had to take her to a stud because she would not mate with the stud that I now have. Do you think the vet would be able to tell by palpating or would an x-ray be necessary with her not even showing? |
I personally wouldn't spend the money on the vet visit unless the curiosity is more than you can stand. If you put her on a table facing you and take her head in your left hand. Use the right hand under her abdomen and feel just past the rib cage for the uterus you should be able to locate it. If you have trouble just shave her belly and use a lubricant on your hand ( like a self breast exam) it is amazing what you will be able to feel. At this stage the uterus should be filling with fluid making it feel less like a hard boiled egg and more like a small water balloon. If she relaxes you may be able to find a little head or two in there. I start checking at 25 days and can normally count "marbles" before the uterus begins to expand. |
false maybe it could be that she had a false pregnancy.... because ive read that when it is a false pregnancy they get big, and then it seems as if over night their belly just seems to shrink back to its normal size, but dont take my word for it, maybe you should go to the vet, because my yorkie is due in 9 more days and i can feel the puppies moving in her stomach already... but its also possible that your dog is just having one or two puppies, i've seen a video on youtube of a pregnant yorkie expecting only two like a day or two before delivery and her belly didnt even really look pregnant, has your dogs, teats began to develop? |
I think I may take her to the vet tomorrow just so I can know what to expect. I want to be prepared either way. Her teats do not look swollen, although they never really looked swollen last time either and she had four pups then. |
jsut wanted to wish you luck |
