very important question.... My female came into her heat around the middle of november, she was done the end of november. Now her teets got swollen and are still swollen. I have never had this happen with a dog before. Is this normal? Will it go away? Should i take her to the vet? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, renae |
You don't mention if you have an intact male in your home or if she could have been exposed to a male during her heat... |
Thank you for your reply. Yes i have a male here and they did breed. But she was swelled way before they bred. And i have bred before, but not this female and have never had this happen. Do you have any thoughts? They are almost a little hard, i guess that is the word i am looking for. Around the nipple is a swollen and tough circle? Please tell me this is normal for some dogs. I have never seen anything like this before. I know they can swell with a false pregnancy, but you say this happened before she was bred. Do you have any other females that were in heat before or around the same time as this one? |
Definatley happened before she was bred. I do have other females, but they are fixed. And because they are bigger dogs, they are not around my babies. I know it isnt clogged milk, i have seen that before, and it is all of them? They were swelled before, now that she has been bred they are a little harder, but not much. Do you think it is because of hormones? Thanks, renae |
I have found that some of my girls will swell like this right after being in heat but it has always gone down in a few days. I don't know if it is cause for concern right now and hopefully someone who can better answer this question will read and reply. I know that personally experience my girls have always been alright but, if she doesn't go down in swelling in a few days and you are still concerned I would call my vet and just ask him/her if it was normal. I never hurts to ask and be on the side of caution when your unsure. Heck! I still call my vet with off the wall questions and he always tells me at the end... Terri there is no such thing as a dumb question unless its one that goes un-asked. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I will keep checking back on this thread and if I learn anything new about this I'll post it for you. |
Thank you. I am a worry wart, they are my babies. Renae |
