Yorkie Bleeding 3 wks after delivery Ok so I posted this also in the general discussion but maybe someone here can help. My bitch gave birth on the 13th of last month. She bled for about a week afterward and stopped. Now she is bleeding a tiny bit again, dark brown in color. She doesn't seem sick and she had five pups and I seen her eat all of the placentas. Someone suggested she could still have a pup inside but I would think by now she would be dead if that was the case. She is as skinny now as she was before and I felt after delivery and I don't feel anything inside. Is there something wrong with her or is this normal? please help. |
I don't think she should still be bleeding. My girl had pups on Saturday and she's not bleeding at all? I would def get her into vet. Any green or stinky discharge? I would get her in to be safe. Keep us posted. |
I have been breeding Yorkies for nearly 12 years so I can tell you that bleeding for several weeks after having a litter is very common. It is just like when a woman has a baby....they bleed for a while. The puppies suckling on the momma continues to stimulate the uterus to contract and some bleeding occurs. Some females bleed more than others. Unless it is a large amount, you should not be concerned. |
I agree with BJH... My Lucy used to bleed off and on for about 5 to 6 weeks after giving birth... Others... you never see a thing. ;) |
Oh I'm so glad to hear that. I was going to take her to the vet but now I'll just monitor. It doesn't smell and is just dark brown. She's not bleeding much so maybe shes fine. |
Some bleed on and off for up to 6 weeks after. You just want to look for a bad smell or a bright red discharge then you for sure need to go to the vet. |
