Placentas(afterbirth) Isabella had 3 boys this am .....so far no fourth puppy. I had missed the first birth(woke up to puppy crying)did not see a placenta. number 2 and 3 both came breech with only minor difficulties. No placentas followed either of those pups. How long should I wait for the placentas? Is it possible all 3 placentas came out with first pup? Usually ive experienced 1 puppy born then placenta,2nd puppy then placenta any and all help would be appreciated! |
guess i rushed it ........we now have the fourth a girl 3 oz! and i still missed the afterbirth:confused: |
I just saw your thread and thought you could answer a question for me. I have a female yorkie and a puppy male. We would like to breed them (when he gets older), and I have alot to learn, but I'm a stay at home mom with plenty of time. So, I have a really simple question for starters. How do you handle the situation when your female is in season, and you don't wan't to breed her at that time? Do you seperate the dogs or is there someway to make it impossible for the male to get to the female? Oh, I have one more question. Do the males always start marking really bad after you let them breed with the female?? Appreciate any insight. Thanks. |
I just answered in your other thread, but will amswer here as well in case you don't see it. Belly bands and diapers will NOT prevent them from breeding. I have personally seen them and they DO find a way to get around them. The best way to prevent them from breeding if you are not going to spay/nueter them is to keep them in separate rooms with doors shut between them. It only takes a minute for them to get together when they want to so you MUST keep them separate. Yes, males will start to mark. Even if they do NOT breed, if they are not nuetered, they will mark. Hope I helped. To answer the OP's questions: Did they puppies come out in a sack? surely they did! If so then they delivered the placenta at the same time. If you are still unsure, you need to get mama to the vet to make sure. |

Is it possible you missed the placentas.....did mom eat them without you knowing? I know when Lexie had her pups last year it was very difficult for me to be sure (inexperiance, I guess). If you're not sure guess it's best to take mom in for a "clean out" shot. Congrats again....Hope we get to see some pictures later this afternoon. |
Danyell!!!!! Congrats!!!!!! how perfect:);):D You know what, Coco's last litter I only got one placenta too. I took her to vet for shot of oxtocin..but he said i didn't need to do that unless she would of been acting sick or leaking green stuff....i just went in. I'm so happy for you. I gotta get my last kid on bus and take Coco's temp... Yeah for Isabella.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork Pics?? |
well i dont feel anything in her belly and it certainly is possible i missed it with 1st and fourth pup.shes acting fine I hate to drag her out in the cold guess ill just monitor her closely. Thank you all! now tis coco's turn:D |
Are you sure she didn't take care of the placenta while chewing the chord? I know when Molly started having her pups it went really fast and she had the plecenta taken care of before I got the puppy from her. I would keep track of her temp and maybe call your vet to see what they think. |
Still 98.7?? We'll c how day goes. Like I said I have to run out and do a few things and get back to her!! Of course we are having a blizzard. Kids will pry be home early. |
