Who has experienced a split heat or silent heat.... For those experienced breeders... Have you ever experienced either a split heat or a silent heat? How can you tell in either case what is going on and how long is a typical time period to expect in a split heat? And finally, have you had a successful breeding with either and if so, how did you know when to breed? Thanks for any insight! |
I have unfortunately had the experience of a dog going through silent and split heats. After 18 months, the vet put her on medication, Chek drops, when we took her off, she indeed got pregnant and had a healthy litter. Now we wait for her to come back into heat. Maybe some others have some better ideas.... |

A breeder I knew had a female who had split heats. She would have swelling and discharge and stop. Then, in about 2 weeks a full-blown heat. She conceived every time during the real heat. Apparently, hypothyroidism had something to do with her splits but her vet was not totally sure. I haven't had experience with silent heats.. |

I had a pomeranian who had a split heat. She was out of heat for two weeks so I watch my friends male pom and oops.... there they were. The vet told me that the male must have brought her back into heat??? I am not sure but we were extremely nervous because she was a petite 6 lbs and he was a healthy 14lbs!!! She had three healthy pups on her own but I had her spayed after that. |
