My Little Guy Not Gaining Weight? I have been weighing all four puppies everyday and they were gaining an ounce a day the first day or two and now three are gaining .5 ounce a day but my little guy only gained .5 yesterday and nothing today. Should I be concerned? |
I would not be terribly concerned unless this went on for more than a day or 2 with no weight gain. Some of my smallest puppies have only gained .2 ounces a day at first as they are just smaller. Does your scale measure to the .5 ounce or to .2 ounces? If it only measures to the .5 ounce then you can miss a slight weight gain. If he seems to be thriving and feeding okay, no crying or shaking, etc. he should be fine. I would start weighing him 2 times a day just to keep track with him. Maybe take the other pups away and give him a little alone time with mom also. That way you can make sure he is getting his share! Best of luck! |
You have to watch the little ones very close, one missed meal and they could take a deadly turn . Get a scale that has grams so you can tell the slightest gain in weight. If this puppy is not gaining it may be time for you to step in and help. Make sure he is not dehydrated. |
Today is day 3 of 4 ounces for Tiny. Should I start supplementing some? Everyone else is at 6 and 7. |

I tried bottle feeding him but he won't take it. I was able to get him alone with mom for a whilletho |
Do you know how to tube feed him? chances are he will not make it much longer if you do not learn how to take care of a puppy like this. |
This may help you |

where can you buy feeding tube for a reasonable price.... |
Revival Animal Health Products for Pet Professionals, Veterinarians and Pet Lovers Or you can ask your vet for one. It is good to have several on hand. |

Good News! Tiny's up to 5 ounces! I gave him some time outside the box with Candy yesterday and it looks like it helped! |
tube feeding has a high risk of aspiration pneumoinia.. this is a last resort procedure.. know the risk. or you could hurt the pup:animal36 |
