The fact that the c-section is such a good price doesn't concern me at all. I have been using this vet my whole life (everyone in the area absolutly LOVES the guy). He runs his practice at home so that keeps overhead down...on top of that he simply loves animals and doesn't screw people over. Someone also mentioned some vets keep their costs down by "lining them up" for mass surgeries. He is the only vet in the clinic and one MUST make appointments in order to see him for anything. Any emergencies that arise day or night are dealt with immediatly. He has a vet assistant as well. Small, rural vet clinic. I LOVE it. Ok, well, I think that I am comfortable now with the costs that I will recieve should I breed. Time to explore other things! THanks so much!! I can't really say whether those prices are good or not but I just have to add my two cents here. :p I'm very careful now when I ask for prices at the vets because I had called before to get a quote don't even remember exactly what it was but lets just say it was shots and they said something like $30 but then when I got there, it turned out that you couldn't get a shot without a checkup which was close to $50 and then they said I also needed another shot - it seems like I never walk out of there for less than $100. So I guess I would just make absolutely sure that the $200 figure is really the total cost. I'm afraid that when you get there they would say the surgery is $200 but the anastesia is another fee on top of that and on and on. Especially when others are paying so much more but if not.... you are lucky and I'm jealous that you have such a reasonably priced vet. :p |
Our local vet charges $195 for a c section, $50 more if after hours. I actually thought this was pretty high as I have seen them do several and it takes less the 45 minutes. They told me once it costs less to do a c section on a cow, how can that be. Tails and dew claws are $3 per pup. You can buy a flat of 25 puppy shots at another vet I know for $55 plus syringe is $8.50 per 100 so less then $2.50 per shot. Rabies shot by the vet is only $5. We took our mixed breed dog in the other day because of infection, she is 16 years old and we thought we might have to put her down. the DR gave her some meds and checkup and was only $16. She is doing better. |
I found a mentor! Woot! She is 20 minutes from me and also has a male stud for my female! She was so helpful and informative! Now, I MUST learn to get good at telling when my girl is in heat. They are so clean! |
I called my Vet yesterday to see what it would cost to have Matty's 2 baby canine teeth pulled and they quoted me $500! I nearly fell off my chair. They won't pull her teeth without a liver function test and "blood work" etc., even though I take her to the Vet regularly and she is up-to-date on shots. I'm in the process of looking for a new Vet. :( |
