Want breeders opinions pls! I have a friend that is looking at a breeder, and the father of the to be pups is 10 lbs... the mom is 6.5 do you think the pups will be large? do you think she should keep looking??? TIA |

Keep Looking There is nothing automatically unsafe about breeding a ten lb male with a 6.5 lb female but why would you want to? There is every reason to assume the puppies will be larger than standard, and that may not be the most serious flaw. Why not find a real pro and deal with them? You'll get a better puppy and it probably won't be more expensive in the long run. |

When I hear about 10 lb yorkies, male or female being bred the first thing that pops in my head is...people are out to make a buck! I would look somewhere else. If you are going to breed - IMHO - you need to do the best you can, find the best and closest to the standard. If she is willing to settle for less - not good. It may cost her more, but she will be prouder of what she produces and better for our breed. Remember - we as breeders, are totally responsible for what we produce and will be also responsible for where our breed goes in the future. Sounds like she may have more researching to do, before she goes out and buys. T. |

Ok I wanted to make sure I told her right!! She hadnt even asked about the parents, which is a mistake I made with my Teddy... I was new to the puppy buying lol. She called the lady and asked about the parents thats how we found out the size.. My Teddy is large for a yorkie, but we love him anyway! BUT I wouldn't breed him! she was going to put a deposit on one, glad she didn't! The pups are due in a week or so, but I told her to keep looking... I myself am looking for a lil female for my bday in march... I know it may take time so i am starting now lol! thanks for the input all!!! |

I think it is great that you are helping your friend this way! Buying a puppy is a big task. One other thing I wanted to note since it seems this breeder is already taking deposits. I always warn people not to place a deposit on a puppy before 8 weeks old...until they have been vet checked and you can talk to the vet and so you can have a better idea of what you are adopting. IMO...breeders who want deposits so young are mostly interested in making sure they have sales and can get them out of their house asap. I will never take a deposit on a puppy until they are older, we have a good idea of their personalities and what they will look like...and vet checked. This has worked for us...but then again we prefer to keep our puppies until they are 14-16 weeks old. It seems to give them a wonderful start in life and they make fabulous transitions into their new homes. |

I personally would not buy anything from a breeder that breeds such out of standard dogs as that male is. |
I would have to agree with what others have said...I would advise her to look elsewhere. |
