2.5 week old puppies and a question How old do yorkie pups start eating solids or mush?? I have been giving momma Innova Evo canned food and today the male (of course) went in after the food and started eating it. I was shocked! I was curious if he just had a hefty apetite so I put the others around the bowl and they too started eating. Is this normal, I didnt plan on them eating wet food until they were around 4 weeks old! They will be 3 weeks on sunday. I got pics, I'll post them as soon as I get them loaded up onto the computer.. |
Wow - it sounds as though they are advanced for their age! Mine didn't start on food until about 4 weeks old - and I made an oatmeal like consistency of their formula mixed with a stage 2 food. Then, by the time they were about 5 - 5 1/2 weeks old, they could handle the puppy food. |
yeah i am starting to think she isnt producing enough milk. I thought she was, puppies always seemed content and they are growing and gaining...so i dunno... Momma is underweight and I have been supplimenting her with puppy formula, bone meal, and egg yolks on top of her wet evo and her dry food that is left out 24/7 |
If you think the milk might be an issue, (and you metnioned she was underweight) I would have her calcium levels checked. Make sure she is getting enough - you can give her cottage cheese, yogurt, vanilla ice cream, etc. It's so important to have the levels checked. My vet didn't suggest it, and even though I was supplimenting, I almost lost my Gellica to eclampsia (low calcium levels). We had to hand feed the babies after that, and they were only 2 weeks old. |
yeah the bone meal has lots of calcium in it, she wont eat cottage cheese or anything else like that for more than two days and she gets picky of it. So the bone meal is mixed in with the milk and she eats it good. |
This completely normal most of my babies start eating wet food as soon as eyes open. |
