pregnancy itching I posted in the general thread about pregnancy and food supplements/calcium and got some good feedback. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-vitamins.html Thanks Now, lil miss preggers is itching and scratching ALOT. Is this related to her pregnancy ? We put some fish oil in her food thinking it might be dry skin but it hasn't helped. Any ideas ? We're new at this yorkie pregnancy stuff. Any other feedback related to gestation is also appreciated. Yorkietalk has been alot of help |
I have never heard of them getting itchy because of a pregnancy however pregnancy on these little ones is very demanding and puts a lot of stress on their bodies. How long have you been giving her the fish oil? Fish Oil takes several weeks before you will notice an improvement. Make sure you are using a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner when you give her a bath. And make sure she is on a good quality diet that is puppy food. What are you feeding her? I would take her into the vet for a full checkup, it never hurts. It could also be allergy related. I have a dog right now that is having a lot of problems with her allergies right now. Just be careful on what you give her, you don't want to give her anything that could put her pups at risk. |

we put her back on puppy food. the weird thing is, our other yorkie isn't itching at all. I thought it might be the change of seasons, dry air/skin. I'm perplexed. she seems hot, panting alot. that seems pregnancy related. she also seems extra tired and slow. |
Not sure about yorkie but I do know that when I was pregnant with my first son, I got a pregnancy rash! It was awful and no one had seemed to have ever heard of it but since then, I know several who knew someone with it so I don't think it's that uncommon. Maybe dogs can get it as well? Poor baby! I did take allergy meds - I think maybe benedryl but it was a long time ago so I wouldn't swear to that- and it cleared it up. I didn't get it at all with my second son.... |
itching My yorkie is also been itching alot and she is about 4 1/2 weeks along. This is her first time so I didn't know if it was just dry skin or due to the pregnancy. |
Maggie is having the same problem but hers was due to a spider bite that caused a major allergic reaction. But the vet also suggested dermcaps for small /petite dogs he said one a day would be good for her skin and coat. They are like vitamin e capsules and he suggested either giving it to her like you would a pill or poking a hole in it and putting it in her food. |
